A redesign of the character, as I see fit for her now. Maramawhā Appearence Maramawhā is a Hoiho, a race of flightless Aven from Matahouroa that resemble anthropomorphic yellow-eyed penguins. A woman in her early adulthood, her upperside plumage is slightly browner than normal. The yellow bands around the eyes are silvery/white in colour. She has a few scars in her neck and right arm, but they are mostly covered by her feathers, making them hard to see at first glance. She wears mostly pragmatic clothes, usually made from foliage. She carries with her a mere, which she uses mostly for spell casting, as well as hand-to-hand combat. History Maramawhā was born on the plane of Matahouroa, on an island called Inanga, where her people live. With a normal childhood, she was always a curious individual, exploring as far as she could. She was also very spiritual, and one day, when she was 12, she meditated under a kauri tree. In the meditative trance, she ignited her spark, allowing her to briefly gaze and understand the Blind Eternities. This left her conflicted: on one had, she was open to a myriad of possibilities, but on the other she knew she couldn't just leave her people willy nilly. For another three years, she simply ignored her potential, leaving her depressed and frustrated. Everything changed when a Parekareka, another type of Aven, surveyed her island. Noticing her spark, it darted off, and by night time Inanga was invaded by the mainland Pirita Kahuna, Matahouroa's aligned clerics. They utterly slaughtered her village, and Maramawhā herself was captured by the Parekareka. Seeing no other choice, she planeswalked away for the first time. Since then, she has been travelling the Multiverse. She has for the most part strayed clear of Matahouroa, knowing that the Parekareka would search for her, but lately she has returned, deciding to fix the plane's problems for once and for all. Personality Maramawhā is mostly an honest person. She tries to keep a calm, stoic demeanour, but she won't hesitate to show her displeasure, and overall is rather easy to read, if one gets past the lack of facial muscles. She is empathetic and nurturing, but can also be rather cold and manipulative, never lying outright but perfectly fine with half-truths and willing to sacrifice for the greater good. She is a normally reasonable person, and takes time to understand what she's getting into. She has an anti-humourous sense of humour. Maramawhā follows the spiritual beliefs of her people, believing that connection with the spirits and nature is of utmost importance, spending a lot of time meditating or reflecting upon the physical world. Her's is a continuous evolving and growing experience, driven by her natural curiousity as she explores the mutiverse; she doesn't believe in enlightment, at least not in the conventional "spiritual end goal", viewing her life and her potential future reincarnations as a continuous chance at learning and improving herself, seeing the concept of illumination as an oxymoron (though she's not averse to use the term "enlightement" for the sake of convenience when debating with other people). She has a preference for forest and island spirits, but she doesn't see them as superior to beings in any way, simply being those most amicable and compatible with her. They also happen to be the ones most willing to share their sacred knowledge, though she has learned many valuable lessons from other spirits. She has little opinion about angels, demons, archons and similar beings, paying them a tokenistic respect, but otherwise seeing them as disruptive and ignorant. Introverted and interested in spiritual growth as she is, she usually preffers the wilderness and rural areas over urban zones, but has no inherent problem with them, as she understands that they are every bit as "natural" as everything else. Ever plotting and planning for higher goals, she has established vast networks in most planes she's been to. Powers Maramawhā's magic is predominantly hydromantic, both controlling physical water in various ways (ice, steam, waves, et cetera.) as well as using water as a medium for her spells, channeling mana and spiritual energies to cast spells. Within this use of water as a medium, she has a special talent for healing and divination, channeling life energies or psychic spells through the water inside or outside of the body. Most of this magic is used on herself or her allies/friends, constantly improving her and their own body/ies and mind/s, while usually using physical water manipulation for combat. |

How did the Parekareka know she had a spark? What did they want with her? Does she have arms plus wings or just arms that look like penguin wings? Does she have fingers? Finger claws? What does "anti-humorous" mean? |

Sorry for the late reply: - Spoilers material. - All Matahouroa Aven have four limbs, the wings being part of the arm. In this case, I thought about ditching the wings altogether for "normal" arms, but I'm thinking about a small fin running along each arm. - Basically this |

I don't think they should have human-shaped arms, that would look out of place. An arm shaped like a penguin wing, with hands like Wistful Selkie, would fit well. After all, the other Aven have wings with the hand claws along the front edge kind of like an Archaeopteryx, right? |

Oh, I like that idea for her arms. Indeed. I imagine them with the hand more or less incorporated into the wing (this is a good refference for what I mean), much like in early birds/dromaeosaurs. |
