Meant to be a collection of short companion pieces to momentous occasions in the Alliance's history, more scenes will be added as the storyline progresses. The parent piece is linked.
gathering - 0.9k words
I am open to suggestions on how to best format this, having the snippet's title and parent link organized in a tidy and unobtrusive way. |

Very nice. This goes a long way to characterize Melasema as this (probably) untrustworthy schemer, playing every side against the center, so to speak. And again, Elphimas getting rattled is well done here, mirroring their reaction to the outburst in the parent piece. I also really like the ending line here, because it reminds me of one of my favorite speeches in the canon Magic novels, which I've quoted several times. It comes from Planeswalker, by Lynn Abbey: Quote: "Without a plane to bind them, 'walkers forget what they were. They become predators, unless they go mad" (Abbey p. 274). I've always liked that quote. Anyway, thank you for posting! |

Also giving me the space to go into the context of all the interactions in the parent piece, which readers couldn't possibly know without a lot of backstory or... well... somebody telling them but I figured that I could get away with some exposition, and I love these two interacting. Quote: And again, Elphimas getting rattled is well done here, mirroring their reaction to the outburst in the parent piece. Elphimas really can't understand why people can be so... human, in a sense Quote: I also really like the ending line here, because it reminds me of one of my favorite speeches in the canon Magic novels, which I've quoted several times. It comes from Planeswalker, by Lynn Abbey While I didn't have that specific line in mind, it was certainly meant to draw attention at what passes from sanity amongst oldwalkers, and how valuable it must be anyway, for Elphimas to be that tired after a full day of herding cats (and wolves) while Melasema can face a long night of schemingmerry-making with a cheerful smile (Also Elphimas is neurodivergent which is part of why he's so worn out by social interactions but that aspect is really meta so let's put that aside lol) Thank you for reading and commenting! |
