As another in my series of off-the-wall, non-canon, short writing exercises (in the vein of the Suppose Prose thread and the Throw the Gauntlet thread) I would like to introduce you to the Meeting thread! In this thread, I hope we can all explore what might happen when one of our characters meets another. To this end, I have created a new variation on the Prompt Generator. This one only creates meetings between characters, devoid of setting or context. Here is the link: Meeting Prompt So, as with the other threads of this sort, I encourage anyone to post some stories. Make them as long or as short as you like, potentially canon or clearly non-canon, whatever you want. Do you want to see one of the characters kill the other? No problem! Do you want them to fall in love? Go for it! Just have fun! |

I'll get things started off with this prompt: Quote: Antine and Nasperge meet.

Now I'm imagining Aloise patiently scrubbing soot stains off of Beryl's face, as Beryl squirms and fidgets. Meanwhile, not too far away, smoke curls up into the air from Blink's charcoalized remains... |

Quote: Zhiran, Beryl, the Heart-Scarred, Aloise Hartley, and Blink all meet. That gives some more depth and context to the previous discussion, while also making it more confusing... Quote: Vasilias, Lord of Ariva and Maral, Celestial Wright meet. I want to see this. |

I picture Zhiran as the mediator here. Zhiran: "Now calm down, all of you. Let's take a deep breath and talk out our problems. So first of all, what happened? Beryl and Blink start yelling at one another. Zhiran: "Stop, stop, stop." ~points to Aloise~ "Why don't you tell me?" Aloise: "She tried to kill Beryl!" Zhiran: "Is that true?" Blink: "No! Aloise is just jealous because Beryl has an eye for me." Beryl: "You mean the one you tried to stab with an ice pick?!?" Blink: "Well, you didn't have to incinerate me!" Zhiran: "And I thought Rishima was bad..." |

"I'm honestly dying to know -- are you going to say it, or not?" The question took Denner Fabellian by surprise. He glanced up at his interrogator, albeit without quite meeting her red eyes. "I'm sorry?" he said. "I'm not sure I know what you mean." "Oh, you know exactly what I mean," the woman said. A gold-toothed grin flashed across her face, but she kept staring right at him, almost like she was daring him to stare back. "I'm talking about that thought that you just had -- the one that you've been trying to decide whether or not you're going to share it with me." Her grin widened. "I can practically hear the gears grinding. So, come on, the suspense is killing me -- are you going to say it, or not?" Denner felt himself flinch. "How did you know?" he eventually said. "You don't read minds, do you?" Denner had once known another woman who could read minds. The memory was not a pleasant one. "I'm no mind reader," the red-eyed woman said. "Just a card player." "A good one?" he said. "Better than most," she said. She was still staring at him, with those red eyes of hers. He had never seen red eyes before -- at least, not on a human, anyway. He glanced down at the gun which hung from her hip. His throat felt dry. "I think I'm going to keep it to myself," he said. "If that's all the same to you." She nodded her head. "Hush-Hush told me you were smart," she said, before crossing her arms in front of her chest, and arching one eyebrow. "So, my question now becomes: Are you in? Or are you out?" Denner swallowed. But he nodded his head, too. "I'm in," he said. She smiled. "I was hoping you might say that," she said. |

Quote: Fisco Vane, the Shark encounters Morgezka Shanak. "Listen, we're both tough people who have been through a lot. A tried to hide from my sorrow by drowning it in business. You just tried to hide, from what I understand. I have recently come to realize that those things just don't work. So I decided to check in on you and see if you just wanted to talk about it?" As the dragon stared at him incredulously, Fisco continued. "Look, I don't like the idea much either. But someone told me that the best way to deal with the past is to share it with someone who can relate. And as far as I know you are the only person I know who's got as much of a past as I do. So what do you say? |

Quote: Syl of the Dual-Walkers encounters Chardis of the Dual-Walkers. Or, as it's sometimes called, tuesday. Quote: Raiker Venn runs into Ilyria the Accursed. This seems almost too good to not be a thing. Raiker and his love of tragedy, compared to how Illyria is cursed with ill fortune and leaving tragedy in her wake. After an interview on the last hundred years or so of her existence, he'd have the makings of an epic. Quote: Beryl, the Heart-Scarred meets Gale. Has this happened? Quote: Sorinne Datharius runs into Chardis of the Dual-Walkers. Sorinne is... not the most fortunate of individuals. Quote: Raleris, the Lorekeeper, Rishima, Queen of the Black Sands, Dantalion, and Syl of the Dual-Walkers all meet. That'sa frightful lot of power. A near oldwalker convention... Quote: Fisco Vane, the Shark and Beryl, the Heart-Scarred run into one another.

Yeah, Raiker's not the nicest guy in the Multiverse. Although, your chosen quotation her revealed an error. Raiker would never say "Let's". Oh, well, it's non-canon. Brentain wrote: Quote: Orida Vise meets Penelophine

Neat! I think you got Orida pretty perfect here (although I actually hadn't considered that she might think she were dead.) I love the visual of her leaning against the Doom Clapper. With Penelophine, though, I don't really see her panicking like that, even if she knew what Ythol meant and who, historically, hung out there. I can see her leaving somewhat quickly, sure, but not so much the panic. Brentain wrote: Quote: Nasperge meets Lukas Harran.

Also good stuff. It's unfortunate that Nas is, so far, only telling Lukas what Lukas already knows, but that's the nature of these sort of readings. Thanks for posting! Tevish Szat wrote: Quote: Syl of the Dual-Walkers encounters Chardis of the Dual-Walkers. Or, as it's sometimes called, tuesday. Okay, I laughed pretty hard at this... After an interview on the last hundred years or so of her existence, he'd have the makings of an epic. Funnily, I got the same pairing, and I almost wrote a little microfic for it, because as you say, the matching is pretty perfect. Also, Raiker probably knows who Ilyria is, since he translated at least one of the histories of the Cabal. Tevish Szat wrote: Quote: Sorinne Datharius runs into Chardis of the Dual-Walkers.
