With a smokey sigh, Fisco casts a sidelong glance at you before muttering "This had better be worth my time." He walks closer and investigates the whiskey. "Whoever it is has mediocre tastes," he says before leaving the bottle and and opening the only door to the room.
{+2 Sight} {Status: Nervous} What is on the other side of the door?
Diana.
I feel nervous as I ask Fisco: "Um, what is that thing? That thing that she's holding?"

Your stomach starts to gurgle, and you realize that, while succulent, the fruit you were eating has given you horrible gas.

Your sensing spell detects a faint magical aura on the book, but it seems that it's not from the book itself. It feels more like the remnants of something that was cast on the book...
What do you do, so warned?
Orcish
Fisco remains impassive for a moment, before taking a long puff from his cigar and almost casually saying "Nothing but some bad memories."
The answer is a gun. She is holding a gun. Fisco does not appear to be perturbed, but appearances can be deceiving.
I place my necklace on the cover and speak the prayer of exorcism once more. Then, if it seems safe, I once again examine the book to see if I can identify what it is.

Feeling no backlash from the exorcism, you open the cover to the book. On its old vellum pages in scrawled handwriting is a date, seemingly over two centuries old. It seems to tell of an event you learned as history. Perhaps this was a journal of some sort?
How many pages do you sift through?

Letting out your gasses, you join in their chorus of hoots and hollers. Before you know it, you have joined their crazy ape band as the bass player. Your instrument is your body, and your tools are the wild fruits of your jungle.
I quickly skim as many pages as I can, hoping to find some information about exactly which kind of ritual opened the Hellrift. Hopefully I can determine where exactly it is located, why it reopened at this particular time, and how to close it.

Banners advertise "Trust in Antiquity!" throughout the shop. The sounds of battle are dull and muted behind the wall. You are alone among a variety of artifacts magical and mundane. You can see out onto a busy street in the far front of the store. You could probably spirit away with a small item from the shop, assuming no magical alarms have gone off already.

I feel invulnerable, so I decide to examine the artifacts.

You flip quickly through the book, skimming through pages describing acts both vile and normal (and maybe one or two pages of sexual fantasy) before finding an entry that mentions a castle. Assuming it is the same place you find yourself in now, it appears it was purchased and taken almost a century ago, with many names written down and scratched out on the page.

At the bottom of the page, a small note is scribbled -- "shelf j 53". A quick glance tells you only shelf A is in this room.

You spend some time examining the various artifacts. A massive orrery takes up one corner of the shop. You find a small, seemingly unremarkable paintbrush labeled "Possessed Utensil", which someone has scratched the phrase "ghost writer" onto. A bejeweled box sits gathering dust upon a plush pillow, surrounded by gold and silver jewelry all glimmering in the wan light. A bell rings, and you look up to see a young woman has entered the shop.

Having learned their strange mannerisms and language, you bid a fond farewell to your new troupe and wander into the forests, better equipped than you had been when you arrived. Your path ahead may be long, but your head is clear and your heart is pure.
You realize you don't actually know the jungle outside of the little hamlet where you stayed with the apes.
The woman is evil, she can't harm me but she doesn't allow me to leave either, she babbles on and on nonsense about ancient gods while dripping corrossive snot that ruins the ground. I lose sanity points.
Oh, great. I'm not only dealing with an insane cult of demon summoners, but demon summoners without imagination.
I look around the room once more to see if there's anything I can use as a weapon. If not, I grab the book and leave, trying to find the room with shelf J.

My deepest apologies for letting this slip by, guys. I basically took my spring break completely off, and I think I maybe posted in NGA two or three times across the 10 days I was off? I can't promise regular updates, but then again, I never did when I made this...

The fairy floating around your head, that definitely wasn't there before, says, "HEY! LISTEN! "When you lose sanity points, your access to skills goes down. But all is not lost! Just find a Spring of Renewal and you'll be able to restore yourself back to full power!"

With as heavy as the book is, you figure you'll kill two birds with one stone, metaphorically speaking, and decide to just take the book with you, looking for Shelf J.
Do you go back the way you came, or out the other doorway to the room?

You pick a direction seemingly at random, and wander down a small trail. Eventually you come across something interesting: a trio of giant insects playing instruments. A wasp mans a set of drums, an ant tunes a piano, while a spider sits at a harp. Well, two insects and an arachnid, you suppose.
