Actually, shouldn't the flavor behind Containment Priest suffice to take a 'passenger' with you planeswalking?

I'd say 'no'.
Her flavor is more of disrupting a spell that would otherwise bypass normal summoning.

Still looks like she has the intended would-be summoned being 'protected' in that sphere.

Yeah, he doesn't look happy about that exactly.

Still seems like it work in a very similar to the concept of the Ancient Fang and/or what one might expect for a stereotypical "bottled" djinn.

While it may be inappropriate to still post in this thread about it, since I'm shying away from the M:EM in some ways (still poking and prodding at my part of the Zendikar anthology tho) I have a bit more lee-way with what's plausible as a whole, it still doesn't hurt to get 2nd opinions about how far over the line something is. With that mind, Milov can be free to be a bit more of a workable womanizer, but since I still am keeping him passive when it comes to magic and abilities, I still need more tools to give him access to his allies in a not-so-complicated fashion. I don't want to turn his expertise with philomancy into a strangely specialized artifice.

Update: While I wanted to keep Milov's Ravnica-esque cultural naming, but while for some time I wanted Milov to be from a never-speak-of-it plane, now I'm starting to conceive what sort of plane he would be from. I am already getting the feeling that life on his home plane (working names = Amoria, Amoris, Amorice) revolving around pursuing a destined romance, "soulmates" if you will. The plane has more of a :g: / :g::r:: *focused* organization to it, encouraging this romantic destiny. While it's not common, some mages learn to use different colors for philomancy. Where Milov is concerned, he is given a little insight into his soulmate. Due to this magic, as used by non-planeswalkers (presumably :g::u: love sages in this case) don't extend beyond their one world, so the divining yields absolutely no answer, leading Milov to believe that he is one with no soulmate in a world where everyone has a soulmate (this event alone may or may not cause his spark to ignite) thus Milov searches the multiverse for a better answer. (As he struggles with the concept, he may behave a bit more like a pickup artist often enough)

I've also figured out a tiny plotline with ally Planeswalker Alfhilda. After her sister Blenda (a white mage, not sure if cathar, inquisitor, or something else) hunts her down to kill her because she's a werewolf (and almost succeeded if not for Alfhilda's spark igniting, taking her to Lorwyn) Alfhilda loses faith in her capacity to be loved by anyone, but after meeting Milov and gaining his sympathy, he suggests that he can divine for her the location/identity of her would be soulmate, but either because Milov believes it would be easier on her home plane of Innistrad OR because the only sources of :u: she would be familiar with would be on her home, they go to Innistrad to find and form a mana bond with blue mana for Milov to use for his divining spell (Alfhilda on 4 paws for sense of smell and and are stopped by a denizen but Milov impersonates a follower of Avacyn (cathar, inquisitor, ?) and claims he can handle the werewolf. Later, Milov casts the spell, having formed a mana bond presumably with Hinterland Harbor and eventually (through navigating the multiverse and such) determines it is an Aven (haven't decided if being a Planeswalker would improve the theme or not, but I've always loved the plot of the film Ladyhawke, hence the racial details)

I can dig it. Kind of wondering what would push people towards relationships but ALSO make it a chore enough that philomancy is common enough, and can be done in particular ways according to each color of magic.

This is an interesting question. Maybe something like a world built around "Courtly" relationships where there might be an inherent financial or cultural benefit to marriage? Therefore, a philomancer would have an advantage, either in locating a "profitable" significant other, or, if placed in an arranged marriage, for instance, ensuring romance within it.

Another option, I suppose, could be a world of prevailing distrust, where relationships are often ploys, but philomancy could help negate the risk by inspiring an emotional connection that might prohibit betrayal.

Hmm, all I know is I want to give philomancy a purpose (but at the same time not be an instant shortcut/easy answer) even for each color I could see it manifesting in.

:w: Perhaps involves friendships (platonic love) and any communal connections like promises or general trust.

:u: I can see blue philomancy mainly being the MtG equivalent of browsing a dating site profile; a blue philomancer can learn things about those they have a relationship or similar bond with, and I imagine at its worst you could hypnotize/mind control someone for such a purpose.

:b: At best I can see Black philomancy supporting relationships from beyond the grave. (For example, I could see a Black philomancer ignoring the "til death do us part" policy either through communications with the dead, or undeath) at worst I could see some forced love-slave sort of magic. I'm sure there's more refined ways to look at black philomancy.

:r: I can see red philomancy directly involving emotion itself, but be temporary but fluid. A red philomancer could conjure up an emotion in someone, or boost a current one, or other variables.

:g: I could see green philomancy concerning itself with hormones, or chromosomes mostly for mating.

I just don't know how to make these branches of philomancy to revolve around Amoris or vice-versa.

It's a world of courtly intrigue and arranged marriages. Philomancers are the wise-men and wise-women who are consulted before each pairing. Some give advice to make the relationship work. Some offer to make the relationship work.

You have no idea how hard I'm having to resist the impulse to break out into songs from Fiddler on the Roof.

I'm unaware of the implications you're making. O.o I suppose that could be a thing, but trying to keep its MtG feel, not to mention this is a character thread, not a world building thread, it's more of an accessory background. I think it's possible that all of the plane's sapient inhabitants are aware of some sort of magical boost in status and ability when 2 individuals join forces, and the increase would depend to what degree any given couple is "together". Are they platonic lovers or something? Are they madly in love with each other? Do they know everything about each other? Are they bound only by physical relations? Etc.

Oddly enough, that made me think. I still need to figure out how things work for the "matchless", and how to frame the matching process in a MtG style, like somehow the matched characters gained something magical about their match in a way similar to how the guildless are left to their own devices compared to members of guilds.

Yeah, I was considering Soulbond for flavor, and while yes, that does benefit both recipients in a MtG way, I just worry that that would imply couples are getting together and starting marital fight clubs in the streets or something lol
