At this point, I'm honestly not sure if I have a natural sense for it, or if I've just been doing it so long it's second nature. Either way, I pick most of them up pretty quickly.

I just got back from running my first poetry workshop. It was a lot of fun (although an admittedly small turnout). We were working, unsurprisingly, with form poetry (what can I say, it's what I do) and no one else there had ever really written in form before. The stuff they were able to produce in a short span of time with basically no prep was pretty amazing. I doubt any of them will do much with form after this, but they seemed to have fun with what we did. It was really fun to see, though!

That reminds of my Advanced Poetry writing class in college. Our teacher though it was very important to learn the forms, even if we never used them again. It was whole lot of fun, and I walked away with a strong affinity towards blank verse among other things.

Anyways, congratulations Raven, I'm glad it went well! Now teach all the lazy layabouts around here for a real challenge!

What can I say? They have to want to learn. But thanks!

Actually, that's a great idea. You guys should do woprkshop threads for learning about writing. I get that most of you guys are highly proficient in it, but certain people.... like myself... well, we suck at it and could use pointers.

Hey, I did say "most." Feel free to designate yourself to either side.

Hell, half your Terisia stuff was better than most of the roleplaying I see these days.

It's not implausible to me that we could see a mono- Beryl variant were she to be sufficiently and properly provoked.

I have a few ideas... >:]

:eek: Run, Beryl! Run!

(Seriously, though, if people have ideas for "Beryl Baiting," I'd love to hear them. The dance card for her main arc is fairly full-up at the moment, but I'm always interested in hearing ideas, because good ideas find a way to happen.)

It's an odd design, but I think she'd wind up looking something like:

Beryl Remorseless

Planeswalker - Beryl

Loyalty: 3

-1: Beryl Remorseless deals 4 damage to all players.
-1: Beryl Remorseless deals 3 damage to target creature. If that creature dies this turn, Beryl Remorseless deals 3 damage to that creature's controller.
-2: You get an emblem that says: "If a player or creature would be dealt damage by a red spell or planeswalker, double that damage."

@Demento:

[Blank Verse fandom fist bump]

@Squinty:

That's not a bad idea. Although I wonder if it'd be better to do workshops here or in the general fiction area...

@Bounty Hunter: Awww, thanks.

@Keeper: *Dap*

@Keeper2: Wait, there is a general fiction area? *Goes look*

Huh, yeah, that might make more sense. On the other hand, we could build the prompts around whatever latest anthology we are trying to push out. On the other other hand, we could do both and use it to advertise in another forum.

I like remorseful Beryl much, much more.

Scary Beryl makes me... remorseful.

It's interesting because I know some people can't get a sense of it at all. Like, for whatever reason Sara can't get a sense of meter or of time signatures at all, despite being a dancer. Her mind just works in really unique ways, I guess.

Considering how you painted her when you did the Pacific Rim article, I would say she's just really tuned to areas of learning that the majority of us here are not (visual and kinesthetic, would be my guess).

I have no idea what to tell you guys except what I let Keeper already know: I think I need a bit of time off from the M:EM for the moment, which I've already started filling with poniwords and will soon start filling with Fallout (I picked up FO3 GotY ed. and New Vegas Ultimate ed. for ~$13 together).

Bon Voyage, sir!

Are you still planning on keeping up with Archivist duties or should I or someone else take over temporarily?

@ Luna - I would be lying if I said I won't miss your presence, so I will say that I'll miss your presence. But I will also say that I hope that you enjoy your M:EM-cation and that life treats you well in the interval. In particular, I am a big Fallout fan, so I hope you enjoy the games, and that their atrocious bugs don't catch you up to much. Save often!

As a rule, I don't care for Garrison Keillor - the man has made a living out of turning my ancestral homeland into a caricature for the amusement of people who wouldn't be caught dead there. That said, I am never above cribbing a good line, and he has a good line which I'll crib for this occasion:

Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.

Okay, almost no internet access to speak of.

This was not what I had in mind when I said I was back. :sweat:

To quote a poem that I just wrote:
Quote:
"To every woman, every man,
No matter whys or hows,
Each one serves as best they can,

Does anyone here know latin? Because that's begging to be turned into latin and used as our motto on our coat of arms (which we should also have)

According to Google Translate, it would be"
Quote:
Omni mulier quisque
Nulla purissime retinuit, et domus tua,
Quisque dapibus ut possunt,
(Cum Internet permittit!)

Unfortunately, when translated back into English, that reads:

Quote:
Every man woman
There is no retained the most pure, and thy household,
Each interface that can be
(The Internet allows!)

Also, I should note that because of this little exercise, I now what to Google Translate all of my poems forward and back and see what happens. Just a warning, I might make a thread solely for that...
