@OL: I don't think Kimberley really understands how uncomfortable Jinsen is now that his self-imposed solitude has been breached. He puts on a good face about it, but sometimes, you just need to send your stubborn apprentice on a junior ornithologist safari adventure and meditate for a while, you know?

...Actually that's probably not a very releveant experience at all.

Jinsen: Let's have some fun, Kimberley. Why don't you practice your Katas?
Kimberley: But I already did that...
Jinsen: Well, why don't you make a game out of it? See how many you can do in an hour, and then try to break that record!

I was finally able to get to this (sorry it took so long!) Marvelous story. I found myself annoyed at Kimberley (in that good way that makes me think she's a real person) at her choices, particularly early in the story, and I love how you set those up and then used them. When she said "sorry about that" to the Kami, I smiled broadly to myself, because it just seemed so perfectly Kimberley.

As the story went on, I started to get the feeling that Kimberley's punishment was less about her growth than it was about Jin's, which I thought was a pretty cool twist. Of course, I also got the feeling that Jinsen set everything up, including running out their supplies and Kimberley's money to put her into a situation where she was likely to steal, but that's the way my mind works. Everyone's up to something with me, you know!

Anyway, there are a lot of bits of this I really liked, and of course I didn't jot most of them down, so I'll just wrap up by saying excellent work, and these two continue to remind me (in a very good way) of all those classic martial arts films I love so much.

Thanks for writing!
