I'll look into it on Monday, if I feel like doing that then.

I need to cry over World War I graves first.

At least you can do something I can't. I've never heard of that word before and English is my only language.

You must be new to the whole fantasy genre, then. Here's a quick list of things what should be in your lexicon (since I've added them to mine via fantasy reading):
Defenestrate
Puissant
Demense
Coruscate
Sepulchre (or sepulcher)
Charnel
Sycophant
Demagogue
Ennui
Eidetic
Parthenogenesis
Superlative
Glib
Renege
Esoteric
Despot
Oubliette
Erudite
Senescence
Pyrrhic
Apotheosis
Alacrity
Simulacrum
Idiosyncratic
And, perhaps, verisimilitude.

And all of those are just some words I bookmarked in my dictionary.

(I'd like to note, I'm not trying to come across as abrasive or confrontational, though I probably am by accident; I just wanted a chance to show off my own lexicon.)
I would say something nice like post a link to said god plane, but I've tried to submit this post like 10 times now AND WHY DOES THE GOOGLECHROME APP HAVE TO BE SO GOD AWFUL ALL OF A SUDDEN

Defenestrate is a fantastic word, and one day I WILL write a story centered around the action. Probably won't be soon, though.

Fun fact: I learned the word "verisimilitude" via My Little Pony and likely wouldn't have come across it otherwise since I haven't seen it used in my other wanderings.

Not at all.
Here's a quick list of things what should be in your lexicon (since I've added them to mine via fantasy reading):
Defenestrate
Defenestrated Sphere
Puissant
I've heard of it before, but only in a D&D homebrew subsystem called Gramarie.
Demense
Note entirely sure if I'm thinking of the same word, but....some sort of domain?
Coruscate
Nope. Reminds me of Consecrate though.
Sepulchre (or sepulcher)
Sepulchral Primordial, though that's the only place I've seen it.
Charnel
That's from the same source as Jaberwoky and vorpal, right?
Sycophant
Syncopate
Demagogue
I've heard of him, but only in passing. Never read the 4E Monster Manual to be honest.
Ennui
The opposite of Stimuli.
Eidetic
Photographic memory.
Parthenogenesis
Superlative
Despot
Erudite
Apotheosis
Alacrity
Now I know I've heard those before, I just can't reM:EMber where.
Glib
Gl'bgolyb.
Renege
Regain? Renegade? I'm not even sure how to pronounce that.
Esoteric
Enigmatic, Mysterious.
Oubliette
Senescence
Not sure.
Pyrrhic
Something to do w/ fire.
Simulacrum
A copy w/o a distinct or direct original, a la Orphan Black. (Which I've never seen.)
Idiosyncratic
"It's one of his few idiosyncrasies that doesn't make you want to kill him."
--Lenard Hofstadter, Big Bang Theory
And, perhaps, verisimilitude.
Again, you've stumped me w/ this one.
(I'd like to note, I'm not trying to come across as abrasive or confrontational, though I probably am by accident; I just wanted a chance to show off my own lexicon.)
Don't worry I have a the same problem as an Aspy, and not being able to inflect tone of voice in writing doesn't help.

A lot of those words I know from either Magic: The Gathering cards or from Mars Volta song lyrics (although often to get at the actual words in their songs you have to kind of pry apart the weird portmanteaus they throw around).

I think I've used it around here at least once or twice, but I don't remember the context, nor do I expect anyone to even pay attention to what I say once, let alone remember it!

But it is a favorite of mine, as well.

Whereas I learned the word "defenestrate" when some drunk freshman tried to evade campus police by jumping out the window of a fraternity house - only to discover that Frat Row is situated on something of a hillside, and that the drop turned out to be a little more precipitous than he was expecting from a first-floor window. The headline in the campus paper the next day was: "Defenestrated first year hospitalized."

Also, I don't know if anyone ever played The Spoils during its brief life, but there was a card in that game called "Defenestrate." The flavor text was: "Look it up."

I learned "defenestrate" from the Calvin and Hobbes poem "A Nauseous Nocturne" at the beginning of The Essential Calvin and Hobbes collection.

Quote:
"The monster, in his consternation,
Demonstrates defenestration,
And runs and runs and runs and runs away,
Rid of the pest,
I now can rest,
Thanks to my best friend, who saved the day."

Oh, wow, I totally forgot that word was in that poem.

Raven, you're blowing my mind.

That reminds me of one of my very favorite Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey:

"Blow, ye winds. Blow like a trumpet. But without all the noise."

My favorite one went something like "If I ever fall out of a tall building, I'm going to pretend to be a dummy, because someone might try to catch me, thinking 'Hey, it's a free dummy!'"

That is also one of my favorites.

A few more, because I can't help myself:

- "I think it's sad that whole families can be torn apart by something as simple as wild dogs."
- "I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world because they'd never expect it."
- "If the Vikings were still alive today, they'd be amazed at the amount of glow-in-the-dark stuff we have, and how we take it all for granted."

And, of course: “Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone's neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing?”

"My grandfather used to sit on the porch all day and whittle. One time, he whittled me a toy boat. He made it out of a larger toy boat I already had. It was almost as good, except that it had whittle marks all over it, and it didn't have any paint, because he whittled all the paint off."

I know this is the nature of the beast, and I really want to break up the off-topic, but: any more thoughts on Gruff?

Sorry, Yxoque. I do tend to get distracted.

In another thread, we started talking about how that character would interact with others in the M:EM. With that in mind, who (if anyone) would you be interested in pairing Gruff with for a story? It might be an interesting way to develop his character to pair him with another 'walker.

There was talk of him meeting up with Aria at some point--kind of a lost children sort of thing. I don't know how well that fits into Szat's reboot of the character though... it seems less interesting to me now to be honest.

He and Lia Xin would be fascinating together though. A character that's young and can't talk and a character that's young and probably can't articulate ideas that well? I think it would be very interesting, and potentially very good for both characters.

It would probably also be a very interesting challenge to write, since they would have to improvise ways of communicating. Hard to pull off, but very exciting if done well.
