Too strict in what way?

The rules have always felt like an after thought really, we never spent much time worrying about the letter of the law so I guess I never really noticed.

Basically, what Ruwin said. I say "too strict" because the written rules didn't actually reflect how we evolved around them (and we are a pretty easy-going bunch).

Give me an hour to look over those newly proposed voting rules & compare to the old ones, then I'll give some feedback.

Okay, I've given it a once-over and here's what I come up with for the voting rules.

Voting Rules

I marked everyone whom I think is missing, though one or two of them have been seen within the last few months (icedragon has a new username on the mothership, Yanmato stopped by for a brief stint before the apocalypse, and I know I saw a flash of VLW at one point).

What's currently undecided are the re-submission guidelines and vote closing guidelines.

To my recollection, we've had maybe one or two works that were re-submitted months after the fact and after some work by the author(s); but we do need to have a word or two about re-submission, if only to make it clear that things can indeed be submitted more than once (so long as they are worked on).

I'll address the weekly vote thing in another post, just to be able to get this one up.

Oh, and here are the old Voting Rules, to show how different they are:

You know, that brings up a good point. Should we add a line like this:
Quote:
While we welcome any voting M:EMbers back from long absences, should a voting M:EMber not be actively a part of the M:EM boards for more than 3 months, they will not be counted when considering majority.

Oh yeah, I was supposed to address the weekly vote thing.

I'm a little leery about having votes only last a week, especially when we have longer projects/works like the 48-pager Fisco Vane Goes to Jakkard. I think, if we have weekly voting threads going up Mondays (or whatever arbitrary day we decide), I can get behind the reminder pms, but I would like to implement it as so:
Quote:
Works submitted for a vote into the Archives are posted on the following Monday*, and a reminder pm will be sent out by the M:EM Archivist to voting M:EMbers that a project is up for vote. Voting threads are left open for one week. After 7 days of no activity, it will be reviewed for status; the M:EM Archivist may decide to extend the voting time if not enough votes have been cast.

*I would think starting it on the weekend would be best, personally.

Since I'm the official Archivist the voting threads should fall to me (without a Speaker) or Yxoque, so I worded that in a way that makes me comfortable.

I like the three months of inactivity rule, although it sounds like a pain to keep track of. It's a whole lot better than just dropping the people that haven't been around for a while, which I've never really been comfortable with, even though a lot of these folks are probably gone for good (VLW; Trolljuju; Skibo...)

That... really is a lot of strikethroughs though :( We've lost a lot of good people over the years. Hell, monored was only just getting started with us, and I have no idea what happened to him. A lot of these folks just sort of disappeared...

Well, I think I've mentioned before that I was quite active on the WotC boards back in 07-08, and then life happened and I just slipped away. I'm living proof that people who vanish from the boards without an explanation can come back! Although I hope some of those guys will keep their absence shorter than the three years I was offline...

Aaand new information:
Thrull Champion wrote:
I've looked, the only complete English digital I've ever been able to find is the Homelands comic, which I'm happy with because that is my favorite, but I'd like to find the Shadowmage and a few of the standalone comics (I've heard Fallen Angel is by far the worst).

Thrull Champion is indeed alive and on these new boards! I'll see if he's still interested in the M:EM soon; right now I need to recover from a day full of water, mud, brick, and awkward positioning.

Oh, and what do people think about my rewording of the vote-closing rule?

I like the proposed wording. As I said before, I was concerned about votes closing before people enough people had voted, but you created a backdoor for that, so I'm in favor.

Okay, then. I'll combine the two rules and post them soon. Probably today. Then I'll see about petitioning sticky-ness.

But you're the Archivist, aren't you? I'm pretty sure the Archivist account can sticky things.

I'm pretty sure only GobO's can sticky things, but I might be wrong. Either way, I can find out when I make the thread.

Will do.

Apologies, but I need to test something.

EDIT: that's odd... normal spoilers aren't working.

Spoiler

I think the problem is that you can't do both in the same post...

Part of the problem I was having (I was testing before making the Ikass thread) was that I had been missing a final /spoiler tag; it seems if you miss any it breaks a whole post's worth.

Yeah, combining two types of spoilers doesn't work for some reason. I know people are looking into it, though.
