another question! what's the culture around multiple entries at once? I'm asking because the story I posted is technically part of a series of 10 vignettes depicting major events on each Isle in between the two blocks. I've started prep work on the second one, and I'm wondering whether I should post it as soon as it's done or wait until my last one is voted on or what.

As far as posting goes, feel free to post things whenever you want to. Obviously, the more that's out there at one time, the longer it's likely to take people to get to it, but there's no problem in doing so.

As far as voting, it's mostly just a matter of being considerate to the voters. We have a sort of informal rule dating back to when everyone was incredibly busy...the first time... where we try to limit the word count of any given voting week. I believe the cap we set was something like 30,000 words? Something like that. So basically, as long as there's not too much up for vote, it shouldn't cause any problem.

And there is no need that one thing needs to be voted in before you can post another.

Voting is done on a weekly basis, so things aren't voted on right when you put them up.

However! The culture generally is that the first work of a non-M:EMber should be voted on to see if we'd like their work. Non-M:EMbers need to post in the Vote Request thread, but once you've got one work accepted you can post your own voting threads whenever you're done with them.

How long are these vignettes, though? If they're very short, you can make it an anthology of sorts for us to vote as one piece. On the other hand, that might give us more reason to point out flaws and give it a Not As Is vote.

ok, I'll wait until the first one is done before posting any more. I might do a couple at a time after that but for now I don't want to flood y'all with stuff before you've even approved any of it.

the one I posted was about 1500 words. the others will probably be around there too. I'd rather do them separately just so I don't have to wait until they're all finished.

continuing questions!

once a thing is voted on and approved, is it locked forever? like, if I decided I wanted to make a small change, or add a little bit extra, would that be allowed (possibly with another vote to approve the change) or am I stuck with the version that gets voted in?

You can change things. I don't think we have an established procedure (yet), but a vote should be able to take care of any major changes.

(Take this with a grain of salt, I've been out of it for a while.)

But is good to see you back.

Minor changes basically only require a request, but any substantial changes basically fall into one of two categories. Things that will have a rippling change and things that are self contained. The second doesn't really require a formal vote, but public notification and discussion is encouraged.

Though that's all pretty much an informal ruling on my part.

yeah, I'm mostly just worried about tweaking wording. the story wouldn't change, just how exactly it was put together.
