I don't have a question here, I'm just pondering the implications of the "main protagonist" question. The two most likely reasons in my mind for why we got such a complicated answer is that the character is either a) the viewpoint character, but not the hero, or b) the hero but not the viewpoint character. But I honestly have no clue.
That one's been tripping me up a bit, too. It could also be the focus of a "story within a story," which could make him the "main protagonist" of a story, but not of one of our stories. Barinellos also has a tendency to use in-world documents, both in stories and for world-building, so it might be a character from one such "found document."
I'm sure it will make sense once we learn the answer, but yes, this is a puzzler for now.
Incidentally, a "no" on this question has punted the ball pretty much completely out of my court, if you don't mind me mixing my sports metaphors. I can't think of a single character that fits each of these answers, which means one of two things: either I'm missing something (which seems quite likely) or the questions we've asked have led us down a wrong path of assumptions. So I'll burn a question or two checking my assumptions.
Well, I wouldn't dare assume your assumptions, but I don't think you're as bad off as you might think quite yet. You're still turning over your options, sure, but you haven't yet ruled out the thought process that'd lead you to the correct course.

Oops, my bad. I think it ate my text. On reflection, it's a bit of a thinker actually. My first instinct is to answer no, but then there's the semantic argument to be had that any time a character may recount something it could theoretically qualify as to be written in the first person.
So, to better answer, the omniscient narration is never in first person.

No worries. I had considered Marten, too. Right now, I only have one idea, but I'm going to look over the options later today to see if I missed anything.
EDIT: Okay, well, my one idea is from a story that has been uploaded to the Archive, so it's not that. Okay, I'm going to start over from scratch.
Okay, so I'm going to talk this through, mostly for my own benefit and that of Aaarrrgh's. I'll put it in a spoiler block for length. Aaarrrgh, if you notice anything I'm missing or assumptions that might not be true, feel free to point them out.

Okay, so my first step is to go back to January of 2015 as the "last post" in a thread, look for every thread that Barinellos created (question 12) and then eliminate any of them that don't have the [Story] tag (question 14). That left me with 15 options:
1. Sorin vs Tibalt 2. The Weight of the Sword 3. Remembrances 4. Favor for a Favor 5. Hide and Seek 6. Lady beneath the Mountain 7. Memoirs of a Gunsmith 8. A Dying Gasp 9. The Snowman Cometh 10. Writer's Block 11. Ordeals 12. When the Siren's Song goes Silent 13. A Requiem of Frost and Flame 14. Kindred 15. Sanguinem et Veritas
Of those, "Sorin vs Tibalt," "The Weight of the Sword," and "Remembrances" have been uploaded to the Archive (question 6), and therefore cannot be the right story (I thought maybe Barinellos's answer to that question, "As best I can remember, No" was a hint about "Remembrances," but that would be cheating, since he said "no"). So that leaves 12 stories to choose from.
"Favor for a Favor" takes place on Gintrue (question 11). The only person in that story who does not come from Gintrue (unless Dimitri the servant is a planeswalker that we were never told about or brought there from another plane in an equally un-revealed plot point) is The Duchess, who has been in more than one story (question 9). So it can't be "Favor for a Favor."
"Hide and Seek" is a story about Tryst in her youth. The only way it's this story is if there are humans in it (question 5), but that is never made clear in the story. The assumption is that they are all devilkin. This doesn't occur on any of the four planes in question 11, so this one is a possibility, but I consider it unlikely.
"Lady beneath the Mountain" features only two characters, to the best of my recollection: Maral and Raleris. Both of them have been in more than one story (question 9). So it can't be this one.
"Memoirs of a Gunsmith" takes place on Jakkard (question 11). Before Question 5 was asked, I thought it might have been Rett Wyvernblood, but he's Vash, and from Jakkard. So this one's out.
"A Dying Gasp" is a story with Ilyta on a dead world called Rethea. I only remember two characters in the story, Ilyta and the Aetherborn she finds there, who is of course not human (question five). So, unless there is another character I don't remember, it's not this one.
"The Snowman Cometh" and "Kindred" both take place on Lania (question 11). The only planeswalker is Aerik, who is both from Lania (question 11) and is in more than one story (question 9). It therefore should be neither of these.
"Writer's Block" takes place on Gintrue. It features three planeswalkers, all of whom have appeared in multiple stories (question 9). It should therefore not be this story.
"Ordeals" features Maral going through trials on Theros. It does feature flashbacks with her family, but I believe they are all giants, not human (question 5). So again, unless there is information we were never given, like Maral's father is human or something, it is not this story.
"When the Siren's Song Goes Silent" is a Donagut story set on Nuwar (question 11). Donagut is the only planeswalker, and has been in multiple stories (question 9), so it shouldn't be this.
"A Requiem of Frost and Flame" features a discussion between Aerik and Morgezka Shanak. There is an unnamed male (question 2) farmer who is presumably human (question 5), and is not from a canon plane, nor from Jakkard, Lania, Gintrue, or Nuwar. So far, unnamed farmer from "A Requiem of Frost and Flame" is my front-runner for this.
"Sanguinem et Veritas" features a couple of vampires chatting. Unless one of Ceth's flashbacks features a human, it is not this one. Unless Barinellos is considering "vampire" a class more than a "race," but MTG traditionally removes the "human" type from obviously previously human characters.
So, our best option, I think, is the farmer. "Hide and Seek," "A Dying Gasp," and "Sanguinem et Veritas" might be options if I'm forgetting something, and on the very outside, if I missed something, MAYBE "Favor for a Favor," "Lady beneath the Mountain," and "Memoirs of a Gunsmith." Otherwise, I don't think there are any other options.
I suppose we could ask if the character is named in the story. That might help zero in on it. Anyway, Aaarrrgh, what do you think?
"Sanguinem et Veritas" has omniscient first person narration in the flashback sequences, so that whole story is out. I followed a similar process (except I obviously forgot about the whole deal with the planes), and so far I've come up absolutely blank. So go ahead and make the guess, I'd say.

Well, even though I haven't dug into listing out any characters or discussions yet, I did start the celebration thread because I have fun with the minor characters. I try to give them a sense of life outside the one chance encounter (hell, I could probably concoct backstories for all of them) but there's just something about the quirkiness of a farmer that raises wooly rhinos that sticks with me. The juxtaposition of how odd the livestock is to us, but how ultimately mundane it would be to him. So, I just have a soft spot for this backwater yokel.
