Appearence:

Panahihou is an Aven, most specifically a Kawau, a race of great cormorant-like Aven. Set somewhere in his young adulthood, he bears a usually minimally kept appearence, with tattered and often broken feathers, though he is decently hygienic. He wears rather simplistic clothes that don't get in the way of his wings, which may vary wildily in accordance to his whims, though he has a prefference for yellow or gold silks and togas; jewelry and accessories are abundant. He at all times carries a black staff made from kawaka wood with a carved taniwha head, which aids in his spell casting.

Backstory:

Hailing from the plane of Matahouroa, Panahihou lived most of his pre-planeswalker life in the Wairepomango swamps, like nearly all Kawau. He and his sibling Pukehou were raised by their infamous uncle Hinuhou, a mad necromancer with an artistic obsession in corpse-made decoration, serving him mostly as his slaves. Forced to spend most of his time as a courier under progressively more violent threats of retribution for failure, Pananihou had a very overworked, fear-dominated, unhappy early life, the constraints of his servitude taking a bigger toll on him than on Pukehou.

When he lost all hope, however, an answer came to his predicament, in his mid-adolescence. When fetching back the grisly results of an assault on a small swamp village, a passing Parekareka entourage spotted him, and in their hateful prejudice against the Kawau they immobilised him and left him to drown in the Wairepomango waters. This led to the ignition of his spark, and he was thrown away from Matahouroa, fred at last from his uncle. Unfortunately [for him], he ended up in Kamigawa, and was found by the Nezumi. Seeing an opportunity to obtain a valuable scout and carrier pigeon, they enslaved him, and he was under their servitude for an year and a half, far worse off than with Hinuhou, who at least had some love for him.

Eventually, one fateful night, he discovered his nature as a planeswalker. In his trip to meet with smugglers in Jukai, he met with another Aven walker from Matahouroa, who told of what he was and how he was free all along. Crying with joy, Panahihou thanked her, and planeswalked out of Kamigawa, unshackled and unbound.

For years, he lived out as an hedonist, trying to make up for all the years he lost, avoiding Kamigawa and Matahouroa like the plague because of his mental scars. Eventually, however, he returned to Kamigawa, and slaughtered the Nezumi tribe that had enslaved him, and made it very clear to the others that standing in his path would lead to certain death. He has now eyes for his homeland of Matahouroa, and has heard that Maramawhā also does, so he seeks her help.

Personality:

With years upon years of opression and zero to no emotional maturity guides, Panahihou is an unashamed hedonist. He lives for the moment, satisfying whatever whims he has, trying to make up for "all the time he's lost". He has very little patience, and being ordered about is an actual psychological trigger for him, though he is savvy enough to at least warn people about this. He has a love for aesthetics, and although not an artist himself his homes are always full of various crafts, from trinkets to paintings, usually stolen. His favoured colour is gold, and while he is not greedy per se, he will steal gold made things whenever fancy strikes him. He is just as likely to discard his possessions and even offer them as tokens of appreciation.

That said, his experiences also made him very empathetic to the downtrodden and opressed, and he has a very soft spot for slaves, who he tries to free whenever he can, and while he has nowhere near enough dedication to start rebelions, he does offer a generous hand if he feels like it. He does have a sadistic streak against people in power, and will actively torment slavers and authorithy figures whenever there is a chance to get away with it.

In recent years, he has began to crave some degree of stability, a place he can call a permanent residence, a home. This is what motivates him to return to Matahouroa, because there simply isn't another place where he can settle appropriately. He does spend most of his time on Ravnica, often in association with the Rakdos - but never joining the guild, which is too comfortable with slavery and necromancy for his liking -, but he doesn't feel safe enough there to call it his "home".

Powers:

Panahihou is above all an umbramancer: his magic is that of the shadows, of darkness in it's purest form. Years as a servant to a necromancer made him have a severe distaste for undeath and indeed corpses in general, though he is not above working with shades, which form his spectral armies. In a tradition parallel to Matahouroa's own Ataata Kahuna, he doesn't enslave shades or spirits, he tries to align their will with his own, to become one with these dark beings, a relatively easily done technique that ensures powerful allies and deadly results.

Darkness by itself is of more use for hiding than destruction, and Panahihou uses the shadows to an excellent degree in evasion, deception and self-protection. Barring the occasional "spectral pyromancy" - using a form of black spiritual magic to burn the soul of his targets, a technique teached to him by the shades themselves -, his favoured method of murder and disposal is via his shades, or by driving his victim to madness and death by using darkness to instill fear and terror on them.

Panahihou can create demons, and on occasions of abundant resources and little time he focuses pure darkness to either summon or outright create demons. These beings are much harder to align himself with than shades are, however, so unless he has some means of disposing of the demon he usually doesn't bother. He does have a better time working with specters, but they're less common and harder to find.
