Another alternative would be ensorceled mercury: keeping its shape perfectly due to spellcraft, but flowing constantly, the lattice of the five metals floating upon its impossible surface. Of course, Quicksilver is often associated with blue due to its liquid-ness.
Well, you run an entirely different risk in using
Quicksilver.

There is Thran Metal, Mizzium, and Etherium, but all of those are equally tied to worlds as Darksteel.
Sadly, one of the ways I feel Magic falls down is in their desire to separate themselves from DnD and other fantasy properties, so as a consequence, we lack things like Mythril, Adamantine, and Orichalcum.
Though... Darksteel might yet exist
elsewhere in the grand scope of things. Still suffers the problem of being planar bound but...
