By: RavenoftheBlack

And so I walked into a world,
That seemed as blank as billowed sails,
Which faced a wind when they unfurled,
And promised countless sights and tales.

We have been cast from distant shores,
Where once we lived and gladly sang,
The ravages of ancient wars,
Will fade, just as the bells once rang.

I cannot say what waits in store,
Or what remains of that we've left,
But we won't suffer anymore,
The acts of disrespect, and theft.

This is our home, so let it be,
Our fitful journey's happy end,
So I'll just grin, and wait to see,
Each cherished and beloved friend.

Very nice. And congratulations on having the very first post here.

I hope we can get the community all up in here.

Nice, Raven. Very nice.

Also, interesting choice of opening words.

"Theft" seems like kind of an odd word choice that's forced by the rhyme scheme more than anything else. That's my one quibble with this poem.

@Miss_Bun: Thanks! I do a fair amount with poetry, so I'm sure I'll get more up on here. (Have you been to the Poetry Plane?)

@Yxogue: Thanks! I thought this was a fitting hello.

@squinty_eyes: Thanks, appreciate it!

@Keeper: :shake: Oh, sorry, I misspoke, I mean "Thanks!" In all seriousness, though, to me, "theft" was appropriate, because I really do feel like something was stolen from us, something I feel many of us had spent a lot of time and effort trying to build and make great, and when it was stripped away, to me, theft is about the only term I would use for it (in polite company).

Of course, the other side of the coin is I wrote that poem in about 10 or 15 minutes, so yeah, word choice might not be up to my usual level of brilliance humility.

Meh, needs more limericks:

There once was a thriving community,
which Orcs did attack with impunity.
And though it was tragic,
for those who love Magic,
this pain has turned to opportunity.

This is now officially the best thread on the new board. Do the other communities have limericks and haikus? I don't think so. ...I assume not anyway. Uh. Maybe I should double check before mouthing off, actually. >_>

I think it's safe to assume that we have the highest poetry concentration on the boards.

I still say that your "Summary of All Time" should be in the M:EM.

I have no objection to putting it up for a vote. Actually, I need to start putting MOST of those poems up for voting. It just always seems like the community had other stuff going on, so I didn't. I'm writing up a dossier for Kahr-ret-Taris right now, and I'm hoping to make a voting thread for him and one for The Fallen Pharaoh by the end of the day (although I've already procrastinated way too long on my grading.)

But yeah, I'd be happy to put it up for a vote and see what people have to say about it.

Poetry sucks hard
But I tend to like Raven's work
I guess I'll shut up

[continues rolling eyes. Gets a jar of eyeballs from the cupboard. Opens the jar. Rolls the eyeballs all over the floor. So much eyerolling.]

I'm addicted to hallucinated time loops :P

That's still probably the grossest thing I've ever written...
