Yeah, no design room left for old slivers, huh? Screw the nu sliver design, long live the classic. |

So I'm not the one who figured this out, but the sliver after The First Sliver is called Dregscape Sliver. As in Dregscape Zombie. As in Alara. Soooooooo...that's a thing now I guess. |

On the one hand, yes, slivers like to callback to previous cards (Bonesplitter Sliver, Frenetic Sliver). On the other hand, Dregscape is a proper noun referring to an actual place on Grixis (which admittedly, the landscape in the sliver art looks nothing like the Dregscape described in A Planeswalker's Guide to Alara, so another point for you I guess) so using Dregscape in the name without actually referring THE Dregscape feels wrong. |

I think someone was just a little too on-the-nose with the name there. Remember, we did see Silvergill Adept on Ixalan, despite the Silvergills being a specific school of merfolk on Lorwyn. Maybe whatever plane The First Sliver is from also has some... scapes of dredge... or something. The flavor in the set is so all over the place that I would hesitate to take anything new from it as undoubtedly canon. |

Fair point on Silvergill Adept. I rescind my previous observation. |

The humanoid nuslivers seem to have been disposed of like the mutated aberrations they were. I kind of wish they took their "you control" text with them because that mechanical tension and flavorful connection was a huge part of the classic sliver identity. But I'd rather have classic art and nu rules text than the other way around. As to the dregscape thing, the last of the images is clearly set on New Phyrexia, so these slivers seem to be quite literally all over the place. |

The humanoid abominations should have had visual indicators that they were masses of slivers. As they didn't, I'm glad they're gone. |

should've just been an image with like fungus sliver and predatory sliver with an arrow pointing at the former and a cross over the latter tbh |

So what does everyone think of scuttling sliver? I really like the design (I'm a sucker for prehistory) but I don't know enough about slivers to know if this is a flavor fail or not. |

Slivers have had EXTREMELY varied morphology before. Check out some Tempest block classics like Winged Sliver versus Spined Sliver. It slightly bothers me that they actually gave it a type other than Sliver on its typeline. Fungus Sliver did it before, but "Fungus" is one of the types that feels like it can be a modifier (like "Zombie") rather than a base race or class. Trilobite doesn't. And really, since it mimics Horseshoe Crab in mechanics, it should have been a Crab if anything. |
