So the wiki says she was a sorceress with a kraken form and abilities similar to walkers. But was it ever definitively stated that she was human? Because she sure sounds like eldrazi to me.

Let me state this before Barinellos sees this and loses his cool. Marit Lage is not an Eldrazi. I don't know what she is, but definitely not an Eldrazi.

Because there are only three. Also because why would there be an Eldrazi sorceress? Also because there's no reason for her to be one other than tentacles, and not all the Eldrazi even have tentacles as their most important feature. Like... it makes just as much sense to say that she's a giant octopus--you could, but there's no particular reason to think that "sorceress that became a tentacle monster"="she was an octopus and then was even moreso an octopus."

Isn't everything with tentacles an eldrazi? That was my assumption anyway.

Some of the cards from Ice Age that reference Lage led me to believe that she/it was always some kind of eldritch, Cthulhu-like being. Her token from Dark Depths is slightly less disheartening than facing down an Emrakool.

As a last parting shot, she existed so long before the Eldrazi were even a thing, that you have to seriously set your mind to ignore everything else about it. This wasn't a 15 year wait for a chekov's gun, this is overlapping inspiration ONLY.

Futurama as a kid is probably what got me started on saying kajigger all the time.

There are only 3 _known_ Eldrazi, and probably only three true original ones sealed on Zendikar (which the others in the game are all spawned off), but that does not rule out the possibility of there being others in the infinite multiverse. I could be wrong if there is a specific reference in the lore somewhere of course, that I can't recall or find. In fact, it's entirely possible that Marit Lage was sealed away in ice prior to the 3 Eldrazi being sealed on Zendikar, and that Marit Lage is the same type of being, although she doesn't have to be, and there is no indication that she is, especially since her token is Avatar type and black colored, if I recall correctly.

Eldrazi seems to be a type of being native to the blind eternities which feed off of reality of planes, particularly their magic, so I'd guess that there could be more out there, just ones that weren't found and caught by Sorin and Company, feeding on distant unknown planes.

1) That's a fallacy and we shouldn't entertain "You can't prove there aren't" since there's no reason to assume there are.
2) The Ice Age was about... 2000 years after the Eldrazi were sealed away.
3) As I've already said, Marit Lage existed almost FIFTEEN YEARS prior to the Eldrazi. Lore established, she was NOT like them largely because THEY DIDN'T EXIST.
4) Eldrazi aren't naturally able to manifest physically on a plane, while marit lage is described as a being who can hop from plane to plane.

They can also make her a flying squirrel if they want. Doesn't mean it makes sense.

I really want ms.lage to come back. She is so fly. Anyway, about the eldrazi thing, Im sure the hooligans at wizards could justify making marit lage an eldrazi if they wanted her to come back, but other than that, she can't officially be one.

What would be the point of making her one though? Nothing about her relates at all to what the Eldrazi are or do or serve to represent within the narrative. They operate completely differently, interact with planes completely differently, are from totally different eras of storyline fans (most damningly of all, as Barinellos has already repeatedly pointed out), and basically have nothing to connect them other than Big and Tentacles, and again, not all the Eldrazi even had those.

Like, there's just no good reason to link these things together. What story would you tell with this information? What would this plot twist do for the narrative? I literally cannot conceive of a single thing such a change would do to create an interesting story, particularly given how much it cheapens any potential standalone story that we might get in the future about Lage.

Wizards could do it but it would be a really dumb move all around.

screw the idea of Merit Lage being an eldrazi, think about if she is a planeswalker! like a planeswalker of such power they can manifest as a giant kraken like creature? am i the only one that thinks that maybe lage as a planeswalker would be such a turning point in expectations of planeswalkers that she would basically be the next Ugin.

Well, the only thing we really have regarding her as a planeswalker is an in-world document declaring she wasn't one while listing off a number of those who were.

Which is less definitive than other sources to be certain, but quite frankly I'm just overjoyed this wasn't about her being an Eldrazi.
