So this conversation happened up in the spoiler forum.

What happened to Garruk?
He's solidly now as the curse from Liliana has taken him over. Until his story-line gets resolved and the curse gets broken, all his green mana turns to black when he tries to use it and he's become some sort of 'Walking Terminator out to kill all other 'Walkers.

In one of the video games, you get to rip a hedron out of Ob's head (which is why he can be a 'Walker again) and shove it into Garruk to stem the curse, but that's the last we ever heard of him.

I know I simplified some things, but what would a completion of Garruk's storyline look like? Who would be the key players? I would assume that Liliana would have to be in the mix as it is her curse that is causing the problem via the Chain Veil. Someone else from the Gatewatch would need to be there to make her do the right thing, either Jace or maybe Gideon (seeing an unstoppable killing machine vs. an unkillable wall would be neat), and maybe Nahiri? It is her hedron keeping him somewhat in check and dealing with it as well could lead us into exploring more of the Nahiri/Ob story.

To me, Garruk seems like a 'walking Chekov's Gun. Liliana cursed him, a decidedly "bad guy" thing to do. Now, Liliana is with the Gatewatch, the "good guys." We also know from the old web comics, assuming they're canon, that Garruk and Jace know one another, and that Jace knows Garruk is looking for Liliana, although he may not know why. Jace also sent a suffering Garruk on a wild goose chase rather than tell him where Liliana was.

If they decided to do anything with Garruk, I would have to believe it will be that whole drama crashing in on itself. Garruk will either catch up to them, or the Gatewatch will happen upon some of Garruk's doings, but either way, the story will come out to the rest of the Gatewatch what they did to him. Nissa should be absolutely pissed just on principle, as should Gideon. Chandra could go either way.

Hopefully, he's the catalyst to cause a schism in the Watch. Then Wizards can either cure him to return him to the status quo, or kill him, as they've never seemed nearly as interested in him as the others of the Lorwyn 5, and he's largely been replaced mechanically by Nissa anyway (personally, I'd take him over her, but that's not likely to happen.)

That said, if he joins the Gatewatch somewhere down the line, especially if Lili is still there at the time, I might just give up on the Magic story altogether...

Didn't Jace send out 'Walkers to hunt him down in the video game? (Waybe not to kill him, but at least "stop" him?)

Are the video games canon? I have legitimately no idea at this point.

I believe they are, because it was the act of the player removing the hedron from Obs head in the video game that allowed him to regain access to his spark.

That part is confirmed by some of the short stories, so it must be. There was that cryomancer who had his skull split by Garruk's axe for instance, and later Jace showed up and agreed to stop bothering Garruk. In another story, Ob Nixilis vaguely references the young planeswalker who took the hedron from him, and the part where Jace was behind that might be referenced briefly in BFZ block when Jace recognises Ob, but I'm not entirely sure about that last point. Vraska is also aware of Garruk's condition and of Jace's part in the affair.

I basically agree with Raven, I think Garruk's curse is perfect as the boomerang that comes back the long way around and hits the Gatewatch hard. We don't know how the Chain Veil arc in general is going to be resolved, though, that might affect Garruk and possibly Ob Nixilis as well. Whatever the case, I really hope Garruk just gets cured and goes back to being his old :g: self rather than being killed off. I liked the old Garruk a lot. If nothing else, he could mentor Domri to give him something to do (and teach the kid some manners in the process). Or, I don't know, get into an epic fight with Kiora. Just about anything as long as they explore his old character more. I also have a very soft spot for his origin story in the webcomics, that really helps you understand how Garruk became the way he is (well, was). Would be cool if the hedron was removed and he got worse before getting better, though. I want to see a demonified version of him, like they did when they retroactively tied Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath's armour to his look as a demon. Garruk already has tusks on his helm, that would give them something to work with. 'Garruk, Demon of the Hunt'... :paranoid:

That said, if he joins the Gatewatch somewhere down the line, especially if Lili is still there at the time, I might just give up on the Magic story altogether...
They'll just retcon the curse and pretend it was someone other than Liliana who did it. It'll be fine. It'll be fine. It'll be fine.

I think going forward they might be but the duels 2012 intro was completely wrong about Gideon's origin;

Yeah, Creative said they had nothing to do with that video, and that they made sure something like that wouldn't happen again. That said, the M12 video wasn't the only time they were wrong about Gideon's origin. :rimshot:

Well, according to Origins, there wasn't a Gideon at all until some Bantian knight rode up on some punk kid in the middle of the road and mispronounced his name. All the history of Gideon starts in Bant. There's some stuff about a Therosian kid named Kytheon that's there too, but not Gideon. :teach:

And then he stuck with that name forever. That's just one more reason to not respect Gideon 2.0 as a character. :thbbbt:

Ah, yes. Bant. The dumping ground of the Multiverse for anyone even vaguely aligned with .

But I do agree with Pavor. I'd like to see Garruk return to his old self. Character-wise, he was probably my favorite of the Lorwyn 5, with the possible exception of Lili, and I've always kind of hated that they cursed him, and then left him hanging in story limbo while other people *cough*Jace*cough* just wouldn't (and won't) go away.

I'd like to see Garruk left on Naya...only 'walker we have from there of late is Domri. That would be after the resolution of his curse, ideally. Since he's so good at killing planeswalkers, maybe have Garruk take up work as a multiplanar hitman...hunting the most dangerous game for profit. That would let them intersect Garruk with Lilly to tie up his curse.

......Domri is from Naya? Has this always been on his lore page and I just never bothered to read it?

Domri Rade is from Ravnica, not Naya.

Yeah Domri's Gruul. Literally. His first planeswalk was to post-Conflux Naya and he befriended a bunch of elves there, though. He really likes Naya.

And by "befriended" he means "you stupid kid, move or you'll get squished" and then, sadly, he didn't get squished.

Between Naya and Jund there's plenty of Hyboria to match Garruk's Conan.

So is Jund. The only real difference is that Naya has hints of civilisation and less death.
