We all knew it was going to happen. hopefully it will be way better than the cobbled together mess of the Zendikar supplement.

Quote:
Like Zendikar before it, the Innistrad supplement was written by James Wyatt, and features rules and background information for game masters to plan their own fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons campaign set in Magic’s Innistrad, home to creepy cathedrals, bloodythirsty vampires, rampaging werewolves, and all sorts of spookiness (as well as the setting of many a Magic expansion, including the recent Shadows over Innistrad).

there is a popular and good innistrad write-up that includes a level 1-5 adventure; it's on both Giant In The Playground and reddit

Yeah I have that one saved for later. I'm pretty sure that, while unofficial and not up to date with the current Innistrad story, that version will handily be of higher quality and usefulness than whatever the D&D side of Wizards puts out if the Zendikar offering was any indication of quality we can expect.

Semi-related, but I just checked the Zendikar Planeshift guide and it turns out Archons and their steeds are actually the same being. So Ornitharch is part-chariot?

Yes, on her mother's side

The previous Planeshift supplement was pretty obviously put together by few people on short notice, and the presentation wasn't great, but I had always assumed it was mechanically solid. I don't have the knowledge to judge for myself.

It was mechanically light and spent much its time telling me what already existing D&D monsters I could re-skin as "Eldrazi" without giving me any real crunchy material that would distinguish Zendikar from any other D&D world. I think there were like 3 monster stat blocks total to deal with the Titans and maybe one random Zendikar monster.

In short, what I wanted was stat blocks for Eldrazi and some other common Zendikar fauna. What I got was "Just take the Gibbering Mouther stats and say it's an eldrazi spawn."

I hope they have an insanity mechanic. I also hope they have more monsters

On a different note, does that nun of a gun

D&D already has an Insanity mechanic built in from the last Encounters Season. I'm willing to be that they will just re-use that with maybe some more options.

That nun clearly has a crossbow. You can see the bolt on top.

Yeah, I made that same mistake on some card or another (I don't remember which and I can't check because Gatherer's down). For some reason, Innistrad crossbows seem to be styled after flintlock pistols.

I noticed that Innistrad looks much more Warhammery this time around. All that armour looks a little more built up and ornate than I remember.

That's a semiautomatic crossbow.

Read it. MUCH better. It even finally addresses classes (though very similarly to how it handles monsters) but I expected as much, I did not expect brand new classes or anything. It uses insanity to determine Emrakul-transformation progress.

I think the most interesting part is at the end: Strahd is re-skinned to be Strevan, the progenitor of one of the VERY few remaining vampire bloodlines besides Falkenrath, Stromkirk, Markov, and Voldaren, and a huge number of Curse of Strahd elements were renamed to fit Innistrad. Very good stuff.
