Today's random flavor discussion card is Lithatog.

I had to look up the name. "lithos" means "stone", so the name does fit the abilities.

The art doesn't really do anything for me. I guess the point is that the Lithatog ate himself a cavern, but it feels kinda generic, and the colors in the background seem completely arbitrary.

What do you think?

+bonus question: Which is your favorite Atog?

Overall, I'm not particularly fond of atogs. I like the self-referential Atogatog, though I always have half-a-moment where I assume it must be an un-card. I like Megatog, mostly because it was the cornerstone of one of my favorite decks from my early years of Magic (I started playing when Odyssey was out and Onslaught was being released) but also because I thought the evolution of the Atog creature was sort of cool to see, and Mirrodin was the perfect place for it. On that note, I also liked the reprint of Atog from Mirrodin for its flavor text, for the same reason I really like Mirrodin's version of Brown Ouphe.

Chronatog is a close second.

Lithatog's a funky looking dude. Art doesn't really do it for me either. What are the common characteristics of the atogs anyways? A big mouth, two eyes, kind of weird? They're a pretty diverse family of creatures. I can only assume there are countless unseen varieties. I kind of think they're the sort of thing MTG stays away from now though.

I like the reptilian features scene on Lithatog, but the perspective on the card looks pretty bad. My favorite atog is the one that I used in my first competitive deck: Psychatog. Float 1UB, cast Upheaval and follow up with Psychatog. Such a fun deck.
