How terrible of wizards to hire someone willing to explore uncomfortable subject matter in a fictional narrative framework. What will those creeps do next.

for the record i think its fine to find the topic of the book uncomfortable, although i don't think one should form a nuanced opinion on the book itself without reading it. I certainly don't think one should form let alone express negative ideas about the author based on a book he wrote that one has not read. That kind of snap judgement is unfair and can have real repercussions to the person being attacked.

book could very well be abhorrent, guy could very well be creepy.

Not gonna lie, I'm mildly triggered at the moment.
Behemoth dropped in Monster Hunter World last week and I've been trying to kill it for days. Probably tried 40-50 times with my main character (Bow).
In an effort to just shake things up, switched to my secondary character (sword and shield) with the medic build...
Finished it first try.

... I'm not entirely sure how to feel about that.
Add to that, I can forge nearly the entire set of armor in the secondary character except ONE item that is the biggest pain to get. My primary account already has all the armor.

I remember when Firesong was coming out I was saying people were overreacting and they should shut up.

Then Nexus got spoiled and I was telling people it would see play in standard as a 1-of to win control mirrors, and people told me I was dumb. Then I saw Psychic Corosion and build a Turbo Fog deck with those and 4 Teferi.

I feel so dumb.

How'd you lose the names Jake and Fin? I guess Fin is a nonspecific noun. Or is Jack Dulce a character's name in another language? How else would a proper noun pop up?

Personally, I suspect that the real problem behind environmentalist media is the same as any other media that's trying to push an agenda- when the message comes first, story comes second. This doesn't mean that all environmentalist media is bad, but many creators see making a good piece of media as an afterthought to spreading their message. For as similar, but far more pronounced version of this effect, see evangelical movies. Oh god.

"the fact that the antagonists in these pieces are regarded as heroic for sticking it to the annoying protagonists, all are hideously symptomatic of conservative spite and hatred."

Right. But Ferngully isn't being preachy. By Yawg that is bad.

Wait, when has anyone ever defended the bad guys in Captain Planet?

As for Vivien's story being an environmentalist tale...eh. It definitely has certain themes in common with something like Fern Gully, but there's a major difference in the actions of the antagonists. The antagonists in Fern Gully were just consuming the forest and not taking action to replace it. (Okay, there was also the demon thing, but its a kids movie. We need an easily focused on and destroyed opponent for the happy ending.) The vampires of Luneau, though, weren't posing a threat to the environment in anyway. They were depicted as a society of sociopaths who tortured animals as public entertainment, stole a precious artifact from Vivien, then proceeded to torture her for an extended period of time when they couldn't make their stolen toy work the way they wanted it to. They had more in common with the villains of an Indiana Jones flick then Captain Planet. At that point breaking open the cages isn't so much about protecting the environment so much as good old fashioned revenge, more comparable to throwing a corrupt warden to the inmates after staging a prison riot. Okay, granted, the little girl was a little gratuitous, but for one thing, we don't know how the vampires on Ixalan age, so she might have been fifteen or fifty, and second, who gives a large predator to a small child on a leash just long enough to leave the child in biting range?

I had to look up Fern Gully as I have never even heard of it. I guess that kinda show's it's legacy. I was a child around the time it came out so I guess it just sucked.

Capitalists

But yea, I think I said it somewhere else, but I am really hoping Vivien becomes an antagonist, and I am disappointed they 1) Shoved Bolas into her story and 2) Made RtRtR about Bolas because she would have been a GREAT antagonist for a Ravnica story. Instead she is going to just show up and do some stuff to fight Bolas and ignore the fact the entire plane was overtaken by city.

Unless, ya know, Bolas somehow manipulates her into thinking she is helping Ravnica and becomes the Gruul guild leader and unwittingly joins the Bolaswatch. But dear god that would be bad writing.
