Also, my sincerest best wishes to the fine people hard at work over in Ft. Meade, who I assume will be monitoring this thread now that we've name-dropped Islam and Allah.

Hi guys!

Ahahaha!

Keeper: Thrull isn't trolling yo. Your argument becomes invalid when you decide to disregard what your opponent says and just call him "disgusting and shameful." Use your intellect son.

On the other hand, the reason Keeper is so passionate about this is that here in North America people are still being killed and mistreated because of ethnicity, and those people are not white. So I suppose his anger is at least for a good reason?

Oh man, oh man.

Without responding to any one person or post, I think I want to offer these thoughts. I don't present them as anything other than my own beliefs, and I hope I can express them as respectfully and thoughtfully as I can.

We are all individual human beings, and none of us are the arbiters of the cultures we live in, or the makers of our own cultural histories. I think we should all strive for historical awareness and cultural understanding, and we should try to be aware of the preconceived notions which we bring with us when we look out at the world. At the same time, none of us should be held at fault for things which were done by other people who looked like us or shared a passport with us. To expect as much is to visit the sins of the father upon the son, and is no more fair than ascribing any other kind of negative association to someone based on how they look or where they live.

What can be expected of all of us is to try to live our lives with empathy and understanding, and to show consideration to others when we have the opportunity to do so, and to try to give the most equitable treatment possible to those who have been disadvantaged through no fault of their own. Speaking purely for my own worldview, this is not an inherited obligation, but an affirmative, moral responsibility which we all have to our fellow human beings to live morally as we can in the present.

No one race or nation or culture has a monopoly on the poor treatment of others. When one group commits bad acts now, it does not make them the unique or sole perpetrators of such practices.

But neither does the fact that others have done similar things in the past excuse such behavior in the present, or excuse any of us from doing our best to confront and stop the inequitable treatment of others when we have the agency to do so in our own lives.

It doesn't matter who we are, or who the victim is, or who is doing the victimizing. No one person or group has any less right to respect and dignity than any other, and no one person or group has any more responsibility for protecting respect and dignity than any other. "They did it too!" is never an excuse to be less than we ought to be. We gain nothing by establishing a hierarchy of who is worse than who; the one productive thing we can do is to try to treat each other with as much grace and dignity as we can.

Hopefully that all made some kind of sense.

Whatever. I'm done with this forum for a while. I'm always supposed to be the calm one who has to put up with getting grilled by rote one-liners from people who don't even bother to read what I say. Just because I've got the knowledge base I'm supposed to put up with people's ignorance and be an educator, and if I'm at anything other than peak game 100% of the time I'm not "using my intellect," no matter how much half-baked nonsense I'm being forced to put up with.

Screw that. I'm done.

I'm posting on something I'm passionate about.

I never was here to troll, I'm simply here to discuss Magic: the Gathering, the game I've spent the majority of my life playing. I came into this post talking about how through fringe logic we can fit Frankenstein's Monster, The Arabian Nights, and maybe if the topic got into it, Three Kingdoms into M:tG Canon. I supported the topic, and it only lead to here. You are the one who started talking about Orientalism, and genocide.

I defended myself, said some opinions, a few of them, probably unpopular, but they are that. Not one have I called out anyone in particular, nor have a launched a personal attack.

Yes, I've also been in some heated discussions, with Lily, with Shadowchu, even with The Butt, but never, have I posted deliberately to troll, nor have I held any grudges.

However this is the first time here, I've been called out, called out in an argument that became invalid as soon as you started disregarding what I said. One I probably shouldn't of responded to. However, you did ignore my rebuttal, and I'm sorry about that also. I guess I'll see you when you return. I'm sorry you feel the most intellectual among us, which can be short sighted as well. I hope to see you as well.

I was going to write more, but Orcish said what I was going to say, and I feel posting it would be redundant.

@Squid: Is that bunny trying to hug me.

Now back to the original topic, how would you incorporate 3 Kingdoms China into the larger canon?

I feel the same way.

Your posts on orientalism kind of set me in something of a despair state, because of what I want my magnum opus to be.

I've locked this thread so things can cool down for a while. I'll probably open it again at a later time, after I've had some time to think about it.
