So let me get this process straight: 1. A mage-to-be invests time, concentration, and inner magical potential into an appropriately significant land, and thus has created a "mana bond." 2. The mage later 'remembers' that particular land or the bond with its mana before ever truly drawing on its mana. 3. The mage later draws upon the mana if the remembered land. 4. The mage is aware of the spell they intend to cast, and focuses the mana before doing whatever hand movements/incantation is necessary. 5. The spell is cast. 6. At some point later, any unused mana drawn upon is 'lost' and eventually even the land they had remembered ceases to be remembered at the relevant time and must be re-remembered?

Sometimes mana bonds are quick. Jace simply feels his psychic powers grow stronger near waterways, for example. Meaningful connections are obviously useful for a mana bond, but not strictly necessary.

As for what happens to the mana, it isn't destroyed. Provided things like apocalypses, chimes or eldrazi aren't involved, mana returns to where it came from.

Well then I wouldn't quite say the quick mana is derived from mana bonds, I would say at a certain point that being affiliated with a color who sharing bonds with enough blue-mana-rich lands would cause this effect.

Also, I didn't mean lost as in gone, just lost to the mage at the time.
