Everything about the Gatewatch is forced. It does not feel like they earned the victory either. By starting off with something so big and built up so much, the outcome was essentially just handed to them without any sense of escalation.

There is a reason the Fantastic Four fought Moleman first and not Galactus.

On the plus side there is now a Tamiyo card in EMN. On the minus side, she's three color.

So THAT makes virtually no sense.

Well, it doesn't make zero sense. Tamiyo is a very blue character, but also arguments can at least be made for green in how hands-off she is about watching history play out before her and logging that information away to grow the knowledge of future generations. Honestly, the white is a bit harder for me to justify.

Eh, quite frankly, it mostly feels like they don't want competition for the gatewatch's mono identities, so it isn't even an issue of growing the character rather than making sure people are stuck with Jace as THE blue walker.
It also sort of throws out the idea that colors are allowed to be nuanced.

There's nothing un-mono-blue about her character to start with. You can attribute things to other colors, but... It's unnecessary.

Oh I know, Tamiyo will always be my second favorite blue 'Walker (behind Teferi). I think it's odd that they moved her into three colors, but I also understand that, for developmental reasons, she had to be mutli-color to have as good a card as she does.

Well, her reverance for the kami and traditions seems a bit more than, which was the first thing that made me suspect that she was going to be multicoloured.

Still, this is rather serious, considering now Jace is the de facto mono- walker forever and ever

Yeah, how is Tamiyo NOT mono-blue? She's just another victim of Jace being everywhere. Really, the next time Maro claims that "it's not all Jace" I'll write him a long angry e-mail or something. I wonder how long it'll be until we're rid of the Gatewatch...

Never. MaRo has made it quite clear that stories for the foreseeable feature will involve at least one or more members of the Gatewatch. That said, as the Gatewatch grows in membership, we may start seeing stories that don't involve the Origins 5 Gatewatch members (now including Liliana). But yeah, expect to never not see a Gatewatch member in a normal Magic expansion for a very long time.

I figured that, I just wonder how long "for a very long time" actually is. Even the Weatherlight crew got retired at some point. Which admittedly is a bit of a different case because they were part of one long arc with a clearly defined end, but still. I'm really hoping for a lot of fluctuation in members and much better stories. Or maybe they'll really retire them if they prove to be unpopular in the long run and people complain enough...

She’s Bant so we can print her. In order to get a sixth planeswalker in the block, we had to make something more narrow to not cause developmental problems.

So the option was to print her at three colors or not print her. Once you look at what three colors she is, Bant (Blue/White/Green) was obvious. She’s not Black or Red. She’s orderly and a scientist that studies natural phenomenon (mostly moons and their effects).

Her card was designed to be something centered in Blue but that touched upon overlaps with White and Green.

I mean, I realise all of that, but I would have strongly preferred to get no Jace but a mono-blue Tamiyo instead.

Im most mad about gatewatch. I'm fine with Tamiyo if she goes back to blue when ever she shows up again if she ever does (would have preferred no jace and blue tamiyo, though). Sigarda was also my least favorite angel, but it makes sense for her to be the one that resisted.

My ideal circumstance here would be for the gatewatch to come in, fail at saving the plane, but for innistrad to survive because of the local population alone.

That's just you. She's looking as fine as ever or even better.

I'm pretty fine with the story spoilers. THe Gatewatch got a little too much last minute focus. The deal with Sorin is kind of lame (but maybe it's best that it happened before he could get any lamer). The oath seems like natural step, and was something I was actually looking forward to. Jace's whole presence in this block could have been filled by any member of the gatewatch, or even Sorin, so it's sad that he got probably got in the way of our new Tamiyo's design by taking up the place of the monoblue walker in constructed. Overall, I'd give the story a C+.

I'm happy with everything they've done with Sigarda in this story. Thalia too. The rest...meh. At least we don't have to worry about Eldrazi again. Or at least, until Emmy escapes.

A new Tamiyo gives me hope for more Kamigawa coverage...but I had wanted our Shards of Alara planeswalkers to be our first tri-color planeswalkers. Elspeth into GWU, Ajani into RGW, Sarkhan into BRG, Tezzeret into WUB. Bolas is already in Grixis colors. None of these are there yet in the storyline, but that would give Creative more room for character development to move them into those color combinations.

Terribly disappointed that my horror cults to The Gitrog Monster and the like didn't save the people and become the state religion. Ah well, those critters were my favorite piece of new flavor from this little block.
