Is it this website? Is WotC gonna take over these forums and shut us down to reduce knowledge of retcons? #tinfoil

Retcons? What retcons? By the way, have I already mentioned that Magic Origins is my favourite set of all time? I just love what they did with the story there. Long live the Gatewatch! :|

Nah, actually I was just busy graduating from university (which worked out fine), and then I was too lazy to post anything for a while :-P
Hope you're all doing well, I certainly am right now.

I bought the Ur-Dragon commander deck. Is it worth including the Worldgorger Dragon + Animate Dead + Sliver Queen combo?

I believe Worldgorger is banned in commander.
Edit- Nope.

Congrats on your graduation! Hope you manage to make more of it than I have so far.

I'm about 1/3 into Glen Cook's Surrender to the Will of the Night, Book Three in his Instrumentalities of the Night series. Imagine 13th century Europe with firepowder, two feuding popes, plus the Crusades; and where all the gods and minor deities of all the religions exist. This series fixes one of my critiques of his later Black Company novels - everything got to the point that it was too telegraphed; in contrast with the Instrumentalities, I'm 3 books into a 4 book series and have no clue where its ultimately heading.

Cook's greatest strength as a fantasy writer is in both his ability to create soldiers that go about with a 'just doing my job,' salt-of-the-earth kind of characterization. He also handles fairly dark material with a kind of bluntness that keeps it from coming across as gruesome for the sake of gruesome.

I was so certain that this was a response to the What Are You Reading Thread that I already arranged my reply to that effect.

Monstress by Majorie Liu is a good read if you've the stomach for the blunt and the gruesome.

Imagine early 1900's China in the aftermath of a religious war, with technology fueled by extractions from the bones of magical creatures and a pope feuding with a race of immortal ancients; and where various beings that are arguably gods (including the ancients) exist but the details are obscured by religious beliefs.

The author was inspired by her parents' stories of survival in Japanese-occupied China and the notion that survival does not end with the war.
I'd call it uplifting... just in a Schindler's Listy kind of way.

Edit- Ooh, here's a blurb: MONSTRESS lends steampunk flair to Kaiju-infested fantasy - See more at: https://imagecomics.com/comics/series/m ... mJrKC.dpuf

After waiting something akin to 15 years or so, the Battle Angel Alita trailer finally dropped.
I'm feeling quite conflicted over it.

^ James Cameron was attached to that for a while, yes?

My Ur-Dragon commander deck is coming along. I've gotten the DTK Elder dragons to replace their FRF counterparts, have a Grim Monolith on the way and am going to pick up a Skittles the Blight Dragon for infection lulz. Next up are Hoarding Dragon, Kilnmouth Dragon, and Yosei, the Morning Star* to go with my Keiga and Kokusho.

*Kamigawa art; Iconic Masters art for the spirit dragons is :gross:

Cameron is still the producer. He personally bought the film rights to Alita ages ago.

Wasn't that the one thing he said he might let get in the way of the Avatar movies?
The Alita books were just on sale on Comixology. I am wondering if this is perhaps not a coincidence. I figured I missed the sale with week's end, but if it's a tie in perhaps it was meant to last.

The other way around. It's why he's producing instead of directing.
And no chance it's a coincidence.
Alita is absolutely a series to invest in.

Well now you can get a Hoarding Dragon for like 10 cents. I have one or two from my Iconic Drafts lying around here I know.

I actually like the Keiga and Kokusho arts more than the originals. Ryusei is about neutral.

Poor alabama.

Disney has just bought a ton of 21st century Fox assests and that has me worried on the future state of movies and TV shows. Its not likely to affect anything immediately but in the next few years who knows.

The US has been due for a break up of companies like in the '80's for about 5, 10 years now. But nowadays people listen to wallets instead of morality or other silly things, and companies have the most money.

The only plus I see from this is that, in the most roundabout way, Marvel gets back control of the X-Men. Other than that, this entertainment monopoly of Disney's is just getting sickeningly vast.

Exactly what I was thinking. Ultimate Avengers please.

It's a very petty thing to do unless you need the money, then go for it!
