I haven't finished reading it yet, but Vivien's characterization seems closer to "Magical Steve Irwin" that we saw in her flavor text entries.

I think she might just be especially unbalanced. During her premiere stories, her personality waffled pretty wildly.
But maybe Wexler just knows how to write a better character.

Is it weird that I really miss Garruk although they really made me not care about him anymore? I mean, they basically just threw him away, but I'd still take him over Vivien or any other green 'walker any day.

I've been saying it since day one, Ikoria is a world MADE for Garruk.
They could've found some deus ex machina to cure him here with crystals.

I mean, I would have preferred Garruk's curse to actually matter while it lasted and to be resolved properly, but as deus ex machina solutions go, the crystal thing would have been better than that resurrection BS on Eldraine...

Well, I just finished reading The Sundered Bond, and I have to say the disconnect between the book and the cards is disorienting. I found it to be very well written and technically good, but my initial impression is I didn't like it.

And just as we celebrate as vaguely more decent Vivien in the book in story on cards she wishes for the entirety of sky sail to be popped.

I might be being too hopeful but here's my prediction: Vivien ends up a twist villian. She looks evil, she sounds evil, she's kind if a dick. It makes too much sense really. Wizards did a lot of set up for this gatewatch thing to not bring them back but what do they really have to fight? They took out two of the biggest threats to the multiverse already. Phyrexia is left but we haven't heard from them in a while. I think its pretty obvious what the next planar threat is going to be. The legion of doom. We have a nice array of semi interesting villian walkers still roaming around, some of them probably upset that bolas didn't take over the world, or perhaps some simply wanting to take a page out of bolas' book, they just aren't powerful enough and need a whole team. Unfortunately the bad guys always lose, and in a desperste attempt 8 years or so down the line they free bolas and/or emrakul or something big to take the gatewatch out. Classic superhero shlock
