Jarad actually tried to stomp out the outdated sacrifice traditions in the novels. Good chance that's over with pre Return to Ravnica. I think the offensive against the Boros was orchestrated by the Sisters of Stone Death during their brief reign, so that may not be representative either. Not that they're super awesome people. Getting lost in the undercity seems to make you fair game for trophy hunting. I know the Golgari made cheap/free food, but was that a food subsidy thing or just how they do business?

Yeah the Sisters were the driver for it, but I never got the feeling like the Golgari were really all against it and were heavily forced into it. Again, I could be wrong because it's been a long time since I read those books too.

I remember the Sisters did take down one of those giant Boros titans. I think it was only one.

I feel kind of surprised the titans literally never showed up again in the story. I think it would have been cool to have one try to stop a nephalim and get wrecked by it. Would've been very telling to have a symbol of Boros power and strength get wrecked.

So we have some semblance of Story Spotlight order from some cards recently spoiled....

Spotlight cards
1.) Consulate Crackdown (Flavor text: "Our workshops are silent. Our creations have been seized. They have killed what makes us alive." - Pia Nalaar) (Art of lots of Consulate banners on everything.)

2.) Pia's Revolution (Flavor text: Pia's passion was directed to the big picture - at making real, lasting change.) (Art of someone [maybe Pia?] swinging a hammer at something)

3.) Disallow (Flavor text: "How easily your flames are quenched" - Baral, Chief of Compliance) (Art of Baral swiping away flames with a blade and magic.)

4.) Battle at the Bridge (Flavor text: "This is bigger than you. All of you." -Tezzeret) (Art of Tezz attacking the viewer in his most Espery of ways.)

5.) Dark Intimations (Flavor text: None) (Art of a lone figure [Maybe Tezzeret?] between two collapsed ariships or other structures to imitate the look of Nicol Bolas' horns and gem.)

Last (first?) story spotlight card.

Consulate Crackdown does a good job conveying the flavour, except for that art. I guess those guys in the foreground are going to shut down a factory, but it looks more like they're having a parade in front of a government building.
... do previews always have stuff like "mtgstory.com" on them? I never noticed anything like that.

You know, if it was any other set I'd give that card's flavour my highest approval.

The story spotlight cards do. They're marked with a planeswalker symbol watermark and have "Story Spotlight X/5" on the bottom. See Captured by the Consulate.

Is the bridge mounted on Kaladesh or does it move to other planes? Does a portal open at the destination or is it only one way? Will it be destroyed by the Gatewatch during the Battle at the Bridge?

All I know is that I'm playing it in Commander.

From the last story we had with Tezz, the device seems to be mounted in a Consulate lab right now.

Considering its bottom apertures appear in the fifth story card mentioning Bolas, I'm thinking it ends up wreckage.

Today we had a pretty neat tale. Even some people on the Consulate side that weren't dicks.

But the Kambal-Tezzeret-Baral trinity remain hilariously evil.

Magic: all major antagonists are hilariously evil.
Phyrexians ?
Eldrazi ?
Bolas ?
Tezzeret ?

It feels like the story relied more on audience sympathy with the Nalaars to sympathize with the rebellion more than it being a gray morality situation. At the moment, the rebellion does read more like an out-of-control Tea Party than anything else.

The Sisters ruled since the fall of Svogthir, which doesn't seem like it should be brief but maybe. The Salvation wiki indicates that it was only 100+ years that the Sisters ruled, which doesn't super make sense to me because of the massive timescale and long lifespan Ravnica works on. Savra would personally know Svogthir at that point and people in general would know who he is, but in-text, he feels like a semi-forgotten, legendary figure resurrected.

The Golgari in general does agriculture for the plane and they also give out free food. A child in the first book mentions she'd rather steal food (or something like that) than eat the gross crops the Golgari gives out.

Hm? The only indication I can find in the wiki is that it was about 1,000 years, which is correct. I just checked the first Ravnica novel, it's in chapter eight. Savra had been plotting their downfall for the last 100 years at that point, though.

The offensive against the Boros was orchestrated by Ludmilla, the last surviving sister, during the decamillennial.
