So, no chance we're getting Pirates vs Dinosaurs for Ixalan then? Shame. That would have sold like crazy.

What else were they going to fight? The green race is.....elves.
Vampires? Zombies? Cats?

But I'm guessing they wanted an enemy color fight. Which means that Blue had to fight either Green or Red. They were pretty boned either way.

We joke that they can't make a duel deck without red, but...
Also, Goblins v Elves, ally colors, so...
It just feels really cheap and dumb to repeat goblins, especially their FIRST duel deck.

Right, they blew any good enemy pairs when they started with a basic ally pair.

Well, it doesn't help that they've thrown just about everything at the wall to see what white wants, but it isn't working. They've finally settled on humans, but the absolute scattershot nature of humans means that's a thing nobody is buying.

Hey guys, I'm back. I took an extended break from Magic's story and this community to protect and stabilize my mental health and things have improved a lot so a couple of days back I decided to check the forums again, but I'm so much behind that I'm hesitant to just pick things up. Is Amonketh worth catching up with?
Oh, and I just realized my first sentence might be taken as me saying this community was/is a hazard to my mental health, but I just couldn't cope with human interaction in general, especially not when I cared about the people involved. It was a rough time for my fiancée.
Edit: But Mown, people didn't like Kithkins...

Well, I won't deny I was worried for a sec. But the important thing is you're doing better and it's nice to see you back. Amazingly, jedi has popped back up too! (no offense jedi)
As for amonkhet... mmm for the most part, I think. There's been a general sense of good will towards the writing, with only one serious hiccup and some mild annoyance on other fronts, but mostly good.

but Yxoque, nobody likes anything! ...apparently.
It's not that I don't sympathize with them not being able to find a resonant white characteristic, but considering how they forced hydra down our throats, I kinda feel like they should just force through whatever they feel has the best chance of sticking and be done with it. Human isn't an acceptable answer.

White really does have a problem that their iconic started out as a class and not a race, and that most of their options are either multi-colored or very set-specific. I think their best option might be ghost tribal. It already has some precedence, and it's the easiest to put into sets, both of new planes and revisits. You can't really retcon kithkins or kitsune into Ravnica and Innistrad, nor would I want them to.
Or they could just commit to human I guess. Spirits always struck me as pretty red, conceptually.

Spirits have the same baggage as humans, albeit substantially less. I do think there's a strong argument to be made for them though and very little reason you can't put them in any given plane. Ghosts have a pretty strong flavor resonance. The reason they're white is probably the hardest thing to answer.
The biggest issue with committing to humans is denying all the other colors access to them. And the looooong history of their presence in all five colors to start.

It's good to see you, Yxoque, I was seriously getting worried. Glad to hear you're doing better.
As to Amonkhet, I'd say give it a shot if you've got time to catch up with it. We're right in the middle of the block, so you might as well jump in. I think most of the problems I have with it ultimately come from the medium it's told in not having enough space, especially in combination with the Gatewatch focus. Personally, I'm underwhelmed by the worldbuilding, too, but that's not the general consensus or anything.
A few ups and downs so far, from the top of my head (potential spoilers):
Spoiler
Ups:
- I really liked Kelly's story about Jace and Liliana looking for Razaketh, he just knows how to write them and always addresses the weirdly specific questions I have. The guy can read minds - The story where Gideon completes the Trial of Ambition was fun. I think it's safe to say people tend to like Djeru's character - There's a flashback story about Samut, Djeru and their aven friend when they were children. IIRC, it was reasonably well written and a welcome breath of fresh air. It also helps you understand how they became the people they are - The final story for Amonkhet was pretty epic. Razaketh shows up and we get some cool Bolas flashbacks. Oh, and it confirms that the Mending happened about 60 years ago
Downs:
- The very first story for Amonkhet is really poorly written, then the Gatewatch gets saved by a deus ex machina - Nobody in the plane's only city seems to think it's weird that the gatewatchers look completely alien and ask stupid questions about the most mundane things while they're Scooby-Doo-ganging their way through the plot - There's a lot of annoying pseudo character-arc stuff for Gideon, but maybe that's just me taking issue with his retcons - Most of the Trials are handled poorly or not shown at all. Gideon somehow just has a Cartouche of Solidarity though we never see him complete the trial, the Trial of Strenght doesn't come up at all, and in a poorly written, totally incoherent story that got a lot of hate here and elsewhere on the internet, Nissa cheats her way through the Trial of Knowledge. Trust me, it's ridiculous. Nobody seems to be taking the trials in the required order either - Samut is apparently going to become a planeswalker in the second set, which is pretty much universally seen as a disappointment

• As far as I understood, Oketra let Gideon jump over the first three trials to join Djeru's crop. • I liked Nissa's story. It was more interesting than most of the other ones, although I found the end of it to be a bit cheap.
I'll admit to slight worry over the absolutely certain to be had Un-walker in unstable, but if they choose Commodore Guff, I'll forgive them basically all the Gatewatch shenanigans.

I think the funniest option would be to print Guff as a black-bordered card in a silver-bordered set, it seems like somewhere they could go with it.

He only has that one cartouche, though, and no one in the crop he joins seems to think that's weird. And just skipping three trials is exactly what I'd file under "handled poorly or not shown at all". The trials are supposed to be the core of their culture and the backbone of the worldbuilding after all. Besides, why would Oketra even do that? And that Nissa thing really didn't make sense, a god can be made of mana, but not of leylines. Leylines are like the veins of the land through which mana flows. I also found the writing to be really messy and incoherent.
Commodore Guff would be the perfect fit for that kind of nonsense, yeah. Not that I really care about Un-sets anyway. I'm pretty excited for Ixalan and extremely hyped for Commander 2017, though.

Hey Yxoque! Glad your doing better. I just came back myself.
On duel decks: Yeah was eh on that announcement.
White's Characteristic: I'm kind of hoping they go with dwarf. Since they seem to have accepted its ok to make them white, they are a classic fantasy race that hasn't been represented well in this multiverse. I was also fine with Kithkin.
Amonkhet: I mostly enjoy the story. There are a few hiccups, but it is mostly positive reaction from me.

I'm categorically against moving dwarves out of red. A little bit of colour bleeding is fine, but there is nothing wrong with red dwarves. I don't think the idea of "characteristic races" is a useful concept at all in the first place. They should just go with whatever fits each given setting best and make sure there's some variation.
