I know people don't like spike haired Jace but I love that particular card art. It's super stylish.

I rather dislike the design of the card's mechanics, but the art is exactly my jam.
Like you said, super stylish.

It's not Jim Murray (who... yes can't do anatomy or perspective for that matter) it's D Alexander Gregory who's absolutely among my favorite Magic artists for his tendency toward stylization.

I'm always impressed by his longevity and adaptability as an artist.

I can recognize his recent work's style, but I have a greater degree of difficulty picking his Mirage-era works out of a lineup compared to his recent stuff.

hmmm... I just completely spaced on that.
I like some of his work, but the Walkers he's done have really really failed to impress, except Bolas.
We had duck face mclegs (Chandra), a Jace who managed to be more anime than the actual anime Jace, long Lili, an ajani that looks like he's pooping, and garruk whose legs just don't work right.

I love the colors, but the style just doesn't settle with me.

That's fair! I mean it's definitely distorted, I just think the distortions work for him honestly.

I mean they're no more distorted than an average Ingres painting, and I think it's a case like Ingres where the anatomy is being deliberately warped for good reasons. Garruk makes me think of that most, like it's distorted in the same Big McLargeHuge way that Jupiter is:

Honestly, the thing that bothers me about Garruk is just the impracticality of the stance. The hips just don't normally or comfortably bend that way. Other than that, I like the Garruk piece. Lili is not terrible either, just she stands out a lot and her face feels more than usually off model.

Chandra and Ajani are pretty bad though.
