I personally don't like her flavor (though I'm to lazy to say why at the moment), but I'm open for debate.

I assume he means visual design....or card design? Either way, he's wrong on both accounts.

No, she is awesome, if recurring the same "character development" device.

Her Theros design is strictly inferior to Volkan Baga's original.
I'm sort of iffy on Michael Komarck's iteration of her.

Igor's version is garbage though, no question.

Oh I thought you meant literally, and I was going to say probably not. She does not seem like a girl that would do that sort of thing even to the one she loves.

I can't understand why you would start a thread like this and then not provide enough information to start a decent discussion. If you're too lazy at the time, don't do it. Just wait until you can muster up the effort to type a full paragraph.

Anyway, I like Elspeth. It's a bit of a shame that her character development was done the same way twice, but a planeswalker looking for a good (zombie-free) place to settle is interesting, as is her PTSD.

Elspeth is my favorite character in Magic, hands down. I absolutely love her story (yes, even this most recent chapter), her design, and in-game incarnations. Her story was one of the things that got me hooked on the game (the others being the flavor of Innistrad and the many wonders of deckbuilding). Anyway, I'd be sort of baffled if someone didn't like her, and curious why.

Evidently, Qumulox, you don't. Why is that?

I like Elspeth. I feel like she has a very Joan of Arc quality to her which always interests me.

Hopefully it works out better for her than it did for Ms. D'Arc.

I harbor a pinch of hate for her for "trying to be" Serra 2.0 (that hood and her initial PW card powers? Nah gurl, just NO.).

Then she got eff-d up real bad in the story department for a couple sets right now... so I was happy and pity her more than hate her. :V

Honestly, I'm not overly fond of any of the white 'Walkers, but I also don't have any strick dislike for them, except maybe Venser.

Because even though I may have not made an argument for my thoughts at that very moment, I still got lots of nice, well opinionated thoughts about Elspeth as a character, including from you.

ANYWAY

I originally didn't like Elspeth because she always seemed so degrading and loathing of herself. At certain points this can make a good character, but when the character is constantly depressed, it get tiring. A good comparison in Catelyn Stark from Game of Thrones (for those of you who have only watched the show, its more prevalent in the book). Catelyn hole character was basically just "I'm depressed, but duty, but I'm depressed, but duty". It got so boring that I sometimes just strait up skipped parts of her chapters, and I feel exactly the same about Elspeth. Her storyline is amazing, with the childhood and phyrexia and such, and I also like her concept, but I think when one looks at her as a character, she can come out a little dry.

By the old gods, I hated Catelyn. And then hated her even more after the you know what when she you know.

Elspeth's character is informed by the intense periods of trauma she has had to undergo; her reactions to that trauma are a large part of what makes her so interesting and sympathetic.
As of yet, her depression is justifiable* because she has yet to receive any real catharsis;, however, I get the feeling she will by the time the curtain closes on Theros block. Just a hunch.

*Not that we should have to justify her depression; seriously, cut the girl some slack!

Shut your whore mouth! He is of Dominaria, like Karn Liberated and Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker which makes him superior to all of the other walkers.

As far as Elspeth goes, WotC needs to either kill her, make her plane bound(Lose her spark.), or actually let her find a place of peace. Actually I don't know much of the story outside of a little information here and there since I wasn't around for her introduction into Magic.

Bolas is older than Dominaria itself.
Also, Venser sucks.

It's true. I'd much rather Radha's spark ignited and we left Venser to languish on Dominaria. Then we could have seen her show up on Zendikar instead of Nissa and at least her blundering about would have made sense.

Radha was pretty cool. I don't understand all the hate for Venser though. He never struck me as especially loathable. Sure, the books he was in sucked, but that's the books' fault, not his. I've yet to hear about the actually problem with the character that makes him pretty much the most widely hated walker.
To stay on topic I think Elspeth rocks. Kind of stuck in a rut there but vulnerability is a refreshing take on a planeswalker.
