So admittedly I kinda stopped following the story as closely since the flavor equivalent of Chronicles, but am I stupid, or did other people think the chain veil was some kind of metaphor rather than a literal actual veil made of chains?

it was first introduced in a comic actually, so pretty early on we new it was an actual thing (also, I dont think the mtg flavor can pull off metaphors).

Technically we have an entire creature type dedicated to metaphors.
But that is beside the point.

The chain veil is an actual physical item that appears to have some major metaphysical mojo going on behind it. While we understand some of what it is meant for, it appears to be as much as anything a key for other powers.

Pure headcanon that disagrees with post-rev official, but I like to think it probably contains Lim-Dûl's spirit. It's from Shandalar and is an old artifact of evil with some connection to Planeswalkers and a powerful corruptive influence while Lim-Dûl was last seen as a spirit on Shandalar, has past dealings with planeswalkers, operates through possession/corruption, and has been housed in so many various and sundry artifacts that it's totally believable he'd be in one more.

I'd buy that.

I'd also buy Lim-Dûl being the Raven Man.

I'm not knowledgable enough about the details of Lim-Dûl's story to make judgements about how much it would disagree with established canon, but if it's not too much of a stretch, I think it would be cool if he was referenced again. If it's not the veil or the Raven Man, they could at least give the old lore some love when/if they're making a Shandalar block. They already introduced a city that was apparently founded by Leshrac, for what it's worth, and tying the old and the new lore together like that makes Magic's universe look more coherent in a way. There's always the possibility that they'll screw it up and drag down the old stuff, though, especially nowadays. >_<

My own headcanon is that it was Kothoped's plan to let Lili blow him up all along, so he could possess the veil and control her through it. It's probably not gonna happen, and I think one of the UR stories seemed to suggest that the things inside the veil are actually the ghosts of the Onakke. But still, Kothoped making Lili get an artefact that enables her to kill him is just too dumb to be true.

Bonus headcanon: Sorin's parasite sword is an Onakke artefact, too.

Hello,

I am the mod of this area, and yes, I am around to delete spambot attacks. This one was particularly aggressive, so it took me a little more time to get to them. Apparently there is a way to mass-delete all of a spambot's posts at once, but I believe only the head mod has access to that. Still, for what it's worth, I check my areas around here usually at least once or twice a day.

Go go Gadget diligence!
