The color pie wouldn't be nearly as guarded. I also bet we would not have had a story that made the Rath Cycle possible and, later, anything involving Urza and the Phyrexians. |

No phyrexia was always a defacto looming bad guy, we would have had them regardless. Now, the colorpie, this is probably true, but there are some aspects of Garfields pie I like (like red counterspells). |

Without the Weatherlight Crew, we lose much of the story of Rath and Phyrexia's plans to re-invade through Planar overlay. Without Gerrard, we lose a reason to go back to the Urza's Block and learn about Tolaria and Urza's long-term plans to fend of the Phyrexians with the Lergacy weapon. Without that you lose the Invasion block and most of the story of the Legacy.Up until...Alliances(?), all we had were smatterings of Phyrexian-isms in cards. Without the push it got from MaRo, I think that WotC could have milked the shadow of Phyrexia on for much much longer and just kept them an ever-present nightmare race that we only hear about and catch glimpses of, but never really encounter to the fullest extent. |

Oh probably, that I can agree with, and I do enjoy the Rath cycle. |

I like all sets so it probably wouldn't matter anyway. |

I get the feeling that if MaRo wasn't around, Magic would have fallen down the tubes and bled the color pie a lot more than it has... But, he isn't on every design team, so I guess that's a bad thing to judge by. I do know we'd have more banana references in there. ~SE++ |

I've removed a bunch of posts from this thread. Please remember that insulting other users is never acceptable on the forums. It's impossible to say. Mark has designed a ton of cards, even before taking the reins of R&D, and was the entire development team for Urza's Destiny, which massively influenced how Magic was designed. The guy's been the head designer for almost a decade now; asking what Magic would be like without him is like asking what The Daily Show would be like without Jon Stewart. It's possible Magic might not even exist today without Mark. It would definitely have a drastically different card pool and history. |

Doubling Season wouldn't exist and poison counters wouldnt have been brought back are the most obvious ones I think |

I think the last time he didn't help head design for a block was Kamigawa. Otherwise, he's on every design team now, except core sets and supplemental products like Commander. |
