The format where only fanmade cards from the You Make the Card forums are legal. Click here to download the Cockatrice plugin NGA Constructed is a way to commemorate the creative work of the No Goblins Allowed community. In NGA Constructed, we can play with the cards designed by our talented YMtCers and experience the rich characters and locations of the Expanded Multiverse. NGA Constructed is no longer being regularly updated. If you have any questions or requests, feel free to contact me and I will respond as soon as I am able. I hope you enjoy exploring the rich culture of our Magic community! The sets included

Banned cards NGA Constructed bans cards to ensure a healthy and diverse format. The current guideline is no deck should be able to kill consistently before turn 4, and no deck should obsolete a wide variety of other decks. If a card you designed is banned, you have the option of issuing power-level errata. PM me the changes and I'll reflect them in the next plugin update, and reconsider whether or not your card should remain on the banlist.

My Operations-minded brain says: Create the flavor of a set in a single thread, then in that thread create teams of people designated to work on a specific color, like three people per team, with one team lead reporting to a single or group of lead designers, or possibly just having 5 lead designers (one for each color, split the artifacts/lands, no legends) so voting is always odd. Each team/color gets a thread. Each individual in a team submits a certain number of cards, probably half of what the entire team needs to submit, then all three vote on the cards that they want to include in the set until they have created a refined list of the right amount of commons, uncommons, rare, and mythic. The final list is reviewed by the 5 lead designers, adjusting cards/color for power level, including pulling cards that may not have passed the colors team votes to make sure all the colors are balanced. NGA Core Set (NGA1) has been created. Pros: divides up the work, has a community feel to it, odd-numbered teams for colors and odd-numbered team leads means votes will be final and inarguable Cons: the more people you add to a project, the longer it usually takes to complete by a factor of 7; no redundancy; flavor disagreements might turn people away; some people may dislike/resent being outvoted Thoughts? |

Well, obviously we should figure out what the mechanic(s) and theme(s) of the set are first. |

The biggest problem is that it takes incredibly long to finish – incredibly long – and large-scale community projects often run into hiccups and commitment issues. In addition, the proposed "NGA Masters" is really more of an archival and compilation project than a true set design. I'm planning to lead-design the set myself with input from the community, which I think will be much faster.

Yeah, I like the "cky is a benevolent dictator" thing more. I want this to finish in my lifetime. |

I don't know diddly about card design, but if you're looking for an objective perspective from someone who's been playing the game for near 20 years I can give some feedback. |

Post subject: | Re: NGA Constructed Format: Concept Discussion |
Of course. Right now I'm finishing up the last few niggling bits of NGA Masters and discussing the possibility of a YMtC Gatherer with the NGA administration. I want to get out a Cockatrice or LackeyCCG plugin soon, but I've been very busy and obviously entering everything by hand is out of the question. Knifethrower has made a script that exports MSE files to LackeyCCG here, but I don't have access to MSE right now. I understand that it's possible to copy-paste MSE data from one file to another. This is the list I want to use initially for NGA Constructed: - NGA Masters - BCP1, 2 and 4 - Fallingman's Eldangard block - Flopfoot's Exterminators block - Riovard's Velicta - My Solphos block - Starstill - Tevish's Taramir If Riovard, Flopfoot, Fallingman, and Tevish have MSE files of their work, is it possible to combine everything we have so far into a plugin? If not, is anyone willing to help collaboratively transcribe their sets, as well as NGA Masters, BCP1, BCP2 and BCP4 into one file to be exported? |

No MSE from me, sorry. I do all my work in MS Word. Also, hopefully we'll be able to say "Taramir Block" shortly there after (I have sketches of the two small sets). It'll be really fun to see some of these things interact. |

I can already see it. Solphos and Taramir are going to skew the format so much. |

We could just play on cockatrice, and look up any cards we weren't sure about. |

Post subject: | Re: NGA Constructed Format: Concept Discussion |
There's still the problem of needing to import 1000+ cards into a Cockatrice plugin. I mean, I guess we could do it by hand and combine the results, but it would be much simpler if there was a way to export cards from MSE – or NGA Gatherer, if that ever gets done – into a plugin directly. |

You can make and play a deck of cards on cockatrice even if they aren't part of the cards directory, they just won't have any images or rules text. |

Post subject: | Re: NGA Constructed Format: Concept Discussion |
Hmm, I guess that eases the burden a little. It still makes bookkeeping very difficult though. I would prefer to have a proper plugin complete with rules text and card images if possible. |

Then we're still faced with the problem of having to compile everything into one MSE file. |
