I heard about this game called Magic: the Gathering: Shandalar on ProJared's channel on Youtube, and it looks awesome. I really want to play it, but is it legal to download? As far as I know it's abandonware, which is a grey area. I don't know if the rules of the forum forbid anyone from telling me where I can find a safe copy, let alone if I'm even allowed to ask here, but if it's allowed, please let me know because I don't want to just go to any random place.

These days, getting a downloaded version is about the only way to get a functional, playable version since the original disk version won't run properly on today's machines.

Versions out there right now also tend to have a whole whack more cards not in the original game, too. There's been a bit of a hobbyist add-on community that has kept the game fresh(er) by updating the card set and ai decks.

Note that the game was simply called "Magic: The Gathering", and was published by Microprose. It has taken on the alias "Shandalar" in the community because of the plane the story is set, and because there have been so many MtG games the generic name was unhelpful. But you may wish to know in your search that what you're looking for might not actually be named using the word 'Shandalar'.

I still have the disks somewhere. :(

I think there was an original version and a supplement? Just remember there were two different CDs that I got seperately.

Yeah, "Spells of the Ancients" was the Antiquities expansion; "Duels of the Planeswalkers" was the main game reissued with further expansion content (Legends), and Mana Link (online play!).
