Desert Twister

It would have been cool if that was reprinted in the Amonkhet block. Just having Rhonas use the spell to destroy one of the gods would have been sweet, even if it would be short lived because of their regeneration ability.

I mean the line "that never failed to end a fight before" would have been much more impactful...

"Why was this card that doesn't fit the color pie or modern design sensibilities not printed in my top-down egyptian themed apocalypse set."

It could have at least been a Masterpiece. Would have made more sense than Choke and would probably get more play too.

I do hate that they made both Choke and Boil into Invocations. But I can't say I'd be any happier with Desert Twister.

I wonder if they might use the two upcoming Masters products (Iconic and 25) to reprint things that are now out-of-pie, but rethemed with art and flavor from a modern plane. They could reprint Desert Twister in one of those with Amonkhet art and flavor text.

Choke and Boil would have been cases of "water? what water?" compared to Desert Twister somewhat fitting the theme of Amonkhet's desert plane. So yes, the fact that those were printed over Desert Twister is confusing.

But honestly, if I was asked "why was Vengeful Pharaoh not reprinted over Desert Twister?" even with different art to fit the storyline better, I would be beaten.

They should have printed red Desert Twister variant with random targeting.

Choke and Boil are sideboard staples in Vintage and Legacy. Desert Twister is not.

Not Desert Twister -
Instant
Choose one -
- Destroy target noncreature permanent.
- Target creature you control fights another target creature.

Now it's in color

It's also no longer a desert twister.

A big part of the setting was the Luxa River and a big part of that in Hour was its destruction.

If it is, it makes for a tremendous visual. Two creatures wandering alone in the desert and then a twisty wind picks them both up and bashes them into each other. Each one blames the other one for the wind, so they have a fight. Perfectly plausible.
