No Goblins Allowed :: [3CM] Season 24: I Spy (Join Anytime!)

Deckbuilding
Each player creates a deck of three Magic cards following the banned list, and any additional restrictions imposed by the current format. (See Round Types below.) Decks are submitted to me via private message with "3CM" and "Deck" somewhere in the title. My deck is finalized before reading these PMs; if you'd like me to send you a verification PM with my list in it, just ask. You may update your decklist up until the deadline. (Unless you've asked me to share my list with you.)

If you send me a deck that can't win against a deck with three blank cards, I'll ask you to confirm that you're aware of this fact. This rule exists to prevent people from accidentally submitting decks that don't work, while still allowing Karn Liberated decks and other such shenanigans.

Gameplay
After the round is closed, each deck plays against each other deck twice, once going first and once going second. Normal Magic rules apply to a game of 3CM, except for the following exceptions.

Players don't lose the game for drawing from an empty library.
If the original source of a random effect (i.e. coinflip) comes from one player's deck, the other player chooses its outcome.
Effects that get cards from outside the game (Wishes, Research // Development, Ring of Ma'ruf) cannot be used to find anything.

Games are played with the contents of both decks known to each player at all times. Players will always play optimally and to win.

Scoring
When the round is closed, a spreadsheet of all the decks and matchups is posted, to be filled in by the players. Players are encouraged to double-check the matchups graded by other players, since mistakes are often made when complicated decks are involved. A win is worth 3 points, a draw is 1 point, and a loss is 0 points.

Round Types
A season consists of four rounds: two vanilla and two alternate formats.
Vanilla: These rounds follow normal rules, but have a banned list that changes every season.
Alternate Formats: These rounds use special rules that might effect deckbuilding, gameplay, or both!

Fabulous Prizes
When a round is done being graded, prizes are awarded! Grand Prizes are given out at the end of the season.
Round Prizes: The winner of each round may suggest an alternate format (in either category) to be put on the poll next season.
Consolation Prizes: The lowest-scoring player of each Vanilla round picks one card from that round's winning deck to add to the next season's Vanilla banned list.
Grand Prizes: The top-scoring players of the entire season each get to make some number of changes to the Vanilla banned list, based on their rank. Each change allows that player to either add a card or remove a card. First place gets three changes, second place gets two, and third place gets one. Note: A card may not be unbanned if it was newly banned at the start of the season.

Tiebreakers
1. Head-to-head: Whoever has the most points from games against other the other tied player(s) wins the tie.
2. Match-Wins: Whoever won the most games wins the tie. (Ignore draws.)

I think it's more that people don't like to think. I base this on the fact that there are people in my playgroup who complain about having to do math while running certain decks that they quizzically find fun (despite not having fun thinking about the math).

Also on the fact that my submissions are/were always from a list of 3CM decks that I have put together because I think they have interesting interactions, in contrast to winning interactions. :incognito:

Hello! Welcome to the Selesnya Conclave! I know your first day here can be a little overwhelming, but don't worry. I'll show you around. See that scruffy guy over there? That's Gary. He was a nervous recruit just like you a few weeks ago, and now he's a trusted member of the team! In fact, just last week, he saved our medicine shipment. This mysterious hooded woman stopped us on the road. She said the route wasn't safe and refused to let us go any further. Fortunately, Gary knew a detour through the undercity. Sure, it was a little damp and musty, but we got the supplies delivered on time! And that's what matters, right? But don't worry about getting everything right on your first mission. Take Gary as an example. On his first mission, he was meeting an immortal member of the ghost council when some Golgari shamans attacked. They transformed the ghost lord into a wild beast! Gary ended up killing it to keep it from causing havoc in the streets. He got a bit of a lecture afterwards about diplomacy and the sanctity of life, but it was a tough situation. Everyone makes mistakes, you know? The key is to not repeat them, which is why our Izzet liason Mark got us some robotic artillery to give us some extra security in future missions. Anyway, let's take a five minute break. I'm gonna go see how Gary's medicine run went. Sorry to keep you waiting. Apparently they ran into that strange hooded woman again, and once again they had to go through undercity Golgari territory to get around. Gary sure likes going down there, huh? It's almost as if... no, I'm sure it's nothing. Let's get you prepped for your first mission, shall we? Bans: Commandeer, Elixir of Immortality, Elspeth Tirel, Summer Bloom Unbans: Encroach, Inquisition of Kozilek, Lotus Bloom, Tidehollow Sculler The unbans this season include a lot of discard effects. With the discard rule changed, these spells are a lot less dangerous, but the Sculler might just be good enough. Lotus Bloom will enable some powerful turn-4's, and I'm curious to see if it's fast enough to impact Vanilla Lands. The banning of Summer Bloom removes a powerful source of ramp in that format, and the Elixir ban removes an entire type of deck from the field. I'm not really sure what any of this means, but I'm excited to find out! Let's play some 3 Card Magic! we've gone so minimalistic, there's no more season numbers in the thread title anymore (also there are still recursion engines that are playable for vanilla lands, they just don't cost 1 mana and don't come with elixir's lifegain so that route is a lot worse)

Edit: So looking back through older seasons, I found that I banned Inkmoth Nexus in Season 18 as part of my 2nd place prize. Has it really remained banned since then?

Vanilla rounds are easy to mail in a minimal effort on. You can get others to score for you if you'd like but actually getting fewer submitters at this point could be the death knell.

I hate to say it, but I no longer have the motivation to figure out what it takes to keep this going. I'm officially stepping down as 3CM host. If someone else wants to take the reigns, I might be able to help in smaller ways. Otherwise, we'll all just have to take a break for now. I do want to thank everyone for their participation. Running this for the past few years has been great, and I hope I'm able to do it again someday. I'll post the last spreadsheet tonight or tomorrow. Winner takes all.

Unless my mtg is extremely rusty, that means they can block the 7/7 without being damage and they can attack without it blocking them. Thus as long as one 2/2 blocks every turn and the other attacks every turn they can't lose. And since Edacade doesn't have something else it's just a mise deck. This was my last reason for visiting the forum... Guess I get to leave then.

Hunted Horror has trample. Even with protection, "lethal damage" for a 2/2 Centaur is 2, so the Horror can assign 2 damage to the Centaur (which will be prevented) and 5 to the defending player.
