http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/leagues-playtest-coming-kaladesh-2016-10-07 Quote: With Kaladesh, we will be launching a playtest version of a new, easy-entry league system in stores around the world, with the goal of collecting feedback from stores for a full launch with Amonkhet. The goal of the league is to foster league-style play with a low barrier to entry for newer players that can still be just as enjoyable for long-time fans of Limited. The playtest version of the league will work as such: -Players will open three booster packs and use those boosters to build a 30-card deck. -The league will last four weeks. -Every week, players will add a booster pack to their pool, rebuilding as often as players would like. Players can also add a booster after three losses. -Matches consist of a single game. Each player gets one free mulligan at the start of the game. -Players will play against each other, earning Planeswalker Points and, of course, bragging rights. This playtest version of the league will be an opportunity for stores to provide feedback about the program. We'll then hold a preview season of the league during Aether Revolt, finally rolling out a full launch in stores with Amonkhet. Stores will be able to participate in the league playtest soon, so get in touch with your store for more details. So....what do you all think of this? |

I hate not having sideboarding available especially in limited. |

Reaction 1: Oh, this sounds kinda cool Reaction 2: My FLGS is a bit of a drive... Reaction 3: Thirty cards?! I guess that makes sense but even Portal funny business was 35 Reaction 4: Format's gonna be super swingy Reaction 5: Mill, for the love of god, MILL! Reaction 6: I like how the pool can be expanded on loss, giving people who were less lucky a chance to catch up Reaction 7: Stores are going to do really well... Reaction 8: Honesty may be an issue but hopefully the Planeswalker Points won't be enough to invite jerk. |

With 3 starting packs and a 30 card deck wouldn't you, by definition have a pile of cards unused as a sideboard?EDIT: Oh, you mean like between games of a match (which there aren't because it's all single games). |

Yah, that's what I meant. Only allowing single game matches is bad in swingy formats. |

I am confused on how this works. Do you make a deck list that remains throughout the weeks or do you start over with new packs |

You keep the same pool but reshape it into whatever deck you like whenever you like, I think. My one doubt is, does pool integrity work entirely on the honor system, or am I missing something? But mostly this feels like something I'd like to play. I'll have to swing by my LGS on Monday and ask about it. |

I'll have to swing by my LGS on Monday and ask about it. I've seen some stores in my area run similar leagues. Typically, outside of league days, the card pools are kept in storage at the store until the final day of competition. So there is little risk of people losing or modifying their cardpool outside event time. Of course there's as much opportunity for them modifying their pool in-event as there is in the typical non-competitive sealed or draft event - people inclined to cheat in noncompetitive formats generally get away with it, actual cheat prevention really only takes place at competitive REL. |
