Welcome to 3 Card Magic, the most minimalist Magic format in the world! What's 3CM? The basic concept is simple: make a deck consisting of any three Magic cards, and try to beat all the other decks! If you're new here, you should start by reading the 3CM Primer. Deck submissions should be PM'd to me, CommanderJim, or emailed to [email protected]. The Rules Deckbuilding Each player creates a deck of three Magic cards following the banned list, and any additional restrictions imposed by the current format. (See Round Types below.) Decks are submitted to me via private message with "3CM" and "Deck" somewhere in the title. My deck is finalized before reading these PMs; if you'd like me to send you a verification PM with my list in it, just ask. You may update your decklist up until the deadline. (Unless you've asked me to share my list with you.) If you send me a deck that can't win against a deck with three blank cards, I'll ask you to confirm that you're aware of this fact. This rule exists to prevent people from accidentally submitting decks that don't work, while still allowing Karn Liberated decks and other such shenanigans. Gameplay After the round is closed, each deck plays against each other deck twice, once going first and once going second. Normal Magic rules apply to a game of 3CM, except for the following exceptions. Players don't lose the game for drawing from an empty library. If the original source of a random effect (i.e. coinflip) comes from one player's deck, the other player chooses its outcome. Effects that get cards from outside the game (Wishes, Research // Development, Ring of Ma'ruf) cannot be used to find anything. Games are played with the contents of both decks known to each player at all times. Players will always play optimally and to win. Scoring When the round is closed, a spreadsheet of all the decks and matchups is posted, to be filled in by the players. Players are encouraged to double-check the matchups graded by other players, since mistakes are often made when complicated decks are involved. A win is worth 3 points, a draw is 1 point, and a loss is 0 points. Round Types A season consists of four rounds: two vanilla and two alternate formats. Vanilla: These rounds follow normal rules, but have a banned list that changes every season. Alternate Formats: These rounds use special rules that might effect deckbuilding, gameplay, or both! Fabulous Prizes When a round is done being graded, prizes are awarded! Grand Prizes are given out at the end of the season. Round Prizes: The winner of each round may suggest an alternate format (in either category) to be put on the poll next season. Consolation Prizes: The lowest-scoring player of each Vanilla round picks one card from that round's winning deck to add to the next season's Vanilla banned list. Grand Prizes: The top-scoring players of the entire season each get to make some number of changes to the Vanilla banned list, based on their rank. Each change allows that player to either add a card or remove a card. First place gets three changes, second place gets two, and third place gets one. Note: A card may not be unbanned if it was newly banned at the start of the season. Tiebreakers 1. Head-to-head: Whoever has the most points from games against other the other tied player(s) wins the tie. 2. Match-Wins: Whoever won the most games wins the tie. (Ignore draws.) It's almost October! We all know what that means! Halloween is about to begin! So turn off the lights and put on some eerie music, because I have a spooky story to tell. I may have gotten a bit carried away. On this very day, one season ago, a group of kids just like us snuck out at night to build some decks and cast some spells. There they were, building some three-card decks, when one kid says to the others, "Hey, have you ever heard of the... Black Lotus?" The other kids laughed, "What's that? Some kind of flowery removal spell?" But the first kid, let's call him Mark, kept going. "Guys, I'm serious. No one's seen it in years, but some say it can let you cast Liliana of the Veil on your first turn." Valkir snorted. "Why would I need that when I have my sweet Nezumi Shortfang deck? Look, it comes out turn one, makes slow decks discard, and can deal up to 8 damage a turn." The other kids nodded, impressed with Valkir's deck. "You don't understand," Mark continued. "With two Black Lotuses, you could cast a six mana card immediately." "Not against my deck!" Edacade boasted. "Look, I've got an Artifact Blast, so your big scary Lotus thing is useless. I'll just hit you with my 1/1 while you do nothing!" "Aaarrrgh, fine! I'll just go find the Black Lotus on my own!" And with that, Mark stormed off into the night. A few minutes later, another kid, (also named Mark) was showing off his new Jinxed Choker deck. "You see, the trick is that I let the Choker get big and then I play-" His deck tech was cut short by a scream from nearby. "Aaarrrgh!" Valkir ran over to see what was going on, but all he found was another group of kids playing commander. "Hey, did you see anyone else come through here?" The commander players shook their heads. "I was too busy making Ulamog robots with Feldon of the Third Path," one said, and the others nodded. Vaguely creeped out, Valkir kept walking until he felt a pair of hands clutch at his leg and heard a harsh whisper. "Valkir!" He looked down and saw Mark, kneeling on the ground and bleeding from the mouth. "Oh my god, Mark! What happened to you?" Mark released a sputtering cough, barely able to speak. "Ban... Flash." "What?" "Also Barren Glory and Show and Tell." And with one last wheezing cough, he collapsed, dead. Valkir knelt down, spotting a Magic card forcefully stabbed into Mark's back. Horrified, he reached for it and slowly slid it out to get a closer look. "No," he whispered, realizing what he was holding. "Noooooooo!" And now, ladies and gentlemen, the Black Lotus has come to haunt us once again. You know what's really scary? The RNG-banned Simian Spirit Guide disables T0 Artifact Blast. gasp! I really wish size 0 font was a thing on this board so I could hide text. [size=0]This is what happens when I try to do size 0 font.[/size] This is the smallest font that the board will let me do. You can still see it.

Before WotC decided to get rid of their forums, they had size 0 font support. You could assign a size of 0 to text and write stuff, and it would not show up in the post at all unless you highlighted where the text was and copy-pasted. When I found out about it I hid secret criterias in my Weekly Crits that nobody ever found. Although one person accidentally made a card for the secret criteria once. At first I thought someone actually started checking for them, but since they didn't find the secret criteria for the next week I figured it was just a spoof. Matching the color of the background requires a knowledge of colors and text coding that I don't care to groom. I mean, what color is the background here even? Grey? Best Friend Best Friend Best Friend? I don't care to go through all 16777216 possible colors to find the exact one I need to make invisible text. Although I suppose all I need to do is start with that second one and tweak the numbers ever so slightly until it's just right. But even that could take fifty iterations to get right.

Try looking here. I found the background color tag, so maybe, if you set both background and font to the same color, you could get what you want. You would still have to do something about highlighting.

Hidden text here! ---> <-------- Hidden text here! Matching background color is a lost cause, because there are several background colors this forum uses. You notice each second post is a different shade of grey. And logged-out users see two darker shades of grey than logged-in users. And I believe mobile users always see white backgrounds unless they're forcing desktop display.

Autocarding a nonexisting card without any text to attach it to is not a fair hidden message. Or at least I assume that's what you're doing (I tried to autocard using just a space once and it didn't work, so I'm aware of that method).

Why? It's generally found the same way your size-zero example above would be. People don't find hidden messages by highlighting areas and copypasting into notepad, they find them by looking at quoted text and paying attention. Odds are that one person who got your secret criteria got it via noticing the hidden text in a quote panel, not by random lucky copypaste.

Mid pack is about what I expected with the lotus blaster deck. I think I like Chronomaton better anyway... gets under Daze. If not for defense from Daze-likes, I'd think Hangarback Walker would be the best out of the three.
