So, I don't play much constructed outside of casual. I do love draft however. I was wondering where limited discussion would belong. The Cards & Decks forum seems more geared towards constructed. Should I just post here until there's enough volume to warrant its own forum? Does the Cards & Decks forum actually include limited as well?

We just went through the Theros pre-release and we're going to start drafting it pretty soon, so I'd like to see what people think of the format and what the archetypes/key cards are going to be.

I think they're still building sub-forums. I imagine here's fine for limited discussion. I'm actually more excited for this format than most--probably bc I'm so sick of M14 limited.

I think limited discussion could be here or in Cards and Decks just as long as it is centralized. When we have enough limited threads I think we can expand and make a subforum for it.

Sounds good, splitting the community in too many sub forums right away is probably just going to dilute the community and discussions. We just need to decide whether it's here or in Cards and Decks!

M14 was a little unfortunate in my opinion. It had a lot of potential (for a core set) and tons of cool synergies and archetypes. Unfortunately, this was all ruined by a complete lack of balance between colors. White especially, got completely shafted. The main problem is that they tried to give it too many things. Some of it cared about enchantments, some of it cared about slivers, some of it cared about life gain... it was all over the place! On the other hand, blue had no part in any of those gimmicky strategies and instead was a streamlined control or tempo machine.

I think just how bad white was shafted dawned on me when I realised that black was better at evasion than white!

In my opinion, the whole life gain part should have been left out of M14.

We could do it in the Cards and Decks forum seeing that ICD threads would be more applicable there.

I didn't have much of a problem with M14--there are just a TON of PTQs that happened in the tri-state area this summer, so I played way too much M14 Sealed and am a little burned out on mtg in general, M14 specifically. I'm probably the only person in the world who, across 20+ sealed events, never got a rumbling baloth in a single pool.

Yeah, I can see how you might be ready for something new!

Life caught up to me in the past few years, so I haven't been able to go to too many events outside of weekly FNM drafts. I miss the competitive scene, but I don't get sick of sets before they rotate any more either.

Fine with me, though the forum's description should probably be changed accordingly.

Yeah, I'll propose some tweaks to accommodate.

I never really do drafts outside of Cubes, but I somehow don't see drafting a core set to be very fun no matter what edition it is...

It was an OK draft format. Better than AVR, about equal with DGM save for the color imbalance for me anyway. I think part of the issue was just how bad it was compared to MMA, which I don't think can be topped in a draft format specifically because it was designed for it.

Theros looks interesting because it represents a lot of archetypes: aggro, midrange, control, mono-colored. Drafting will be pretty fun. I had a good time with my draft Saturday and everyone seemed to have built comparable decks.

Actually, MX coresets have been significantly more fun to draft then old coresets. A great amount of effort on WotC's part has gone into making them more interesting and making them feel different from one another. M14 had a few problems, but it was still quite enjoyable. I certainly preferred it to 3x gatecrash personally.

Gatecrash and Return to Ravnica both wore out their welcome much faster than M14 has. The block just failed in my eyes.

Yeah, I'm disappointed in RtR block on many levels. The limited environment was a lot worse than the original ravnica environment and a lot of the original flavor is missing. It's not a bad block, but it doesn't live up to its predecessor.
