I think it's pretty clear here the real broken card: Island. It's Encroach and Wasteland immune, it can cast a Chronomaton and can still pay for Daze immediately thereafter. Ban Island!

Seems a very rock-paper-scissors format. I expect a lot of discard. Channex seems really weak since it doesnt beat chrono and I havent found a version that beats discard and stays competitive vs anything else.

Without Lotus there no room for competitive innovation...land destruction's too big a threat in combo with discard. My Squire/Martial Coup deck did pretty decent in a lotus round, it would get wrecked this round.

Close... in the most recent vanilla round (s6 vanilla redux) I made #4 of 16 with a no-rack-no-shriek discard deck.

Discard gets better the harder it is to cast your stuff. I didn't say I thought it would win, I said I expected a lot of it. Regardless of how well discard does, it cuts your score, making it harder to place high if you haven't prepared for it, all while leaving the owner of the discard deck in a comfortably competitive position. It's a safe bet over meta-gaming. It snaps up anyone playing Energy Field or Double Bloom to circumvent turn 1 threats like double chrono, while plugging in some 3's (and sometimes 6's) against other control decks...specifically Land Destruction, or Scepter decks.

I will play a deck based on the first random card gathererer gives me.

That card feels like it costs one more mana than Thalia, Guardian of Thraben.

If it doesn't have to survive, then Mogg Fanatic or Gut Shot.

If it doesn't have to be a one drop, saprazzan skerry + fog bank + scalding tongs could be a fun deck.

So do double 2cc threat.

That was basically my train of thought when I sent in doublemayor.
Beats Chrono and goes around Chancellor, goes around most discard too. Previous season showed those would probably be the most played decks.

No, Chrono wins on turn 9 and can chump pump the only 3 power one drops before they can win (none with evasion). Which means the 2 power 1 drops cant win even if they have evasion and haste.

Thallid + Pendelhaven beats one Chrono (as we saw in Concise), but double chrono is tough to mess with
Mayor, Tangle, City wins almost as much as dual Mayor and isn't vulnerable to land destruction or Channex
Ornithopter + Forced Adaptation beats a single Chrono and maybe double
I think Door's old Bloodhall Ooze deck might beat Chrono too
Aaannnddd I think Rush's Sarcomancy deck beats it

It was one of three decks I considered, but I hesitated because I expected a bigger showing from Sea's Claim/Lush Growth/Evil Presence style decks (which I expected in force to combat white storagelands in Channex decks, City of Traitors, activated manlands...)

Also the deck wouldn't get past removal-backed Channex decks (which nobody played). Channex-Dismember-DryadArbor or Channex-GutShot-(zerodrop or FountainOfCho) 6-0's it; Channex-Path-FountainOfCho 4-1's.

Yeah, I expected a lot more of that last round as well. Pendelhaven + Forge was a ploy to out maneuver those decks while powerhousing through Evil Presence type decks (while still being relatively original) . Meta went a bit of a different direction. The next shift should be even more interesting!

Huh, I guess last round would have been good for it, I passed on it.

I just assumed someone was already thinking about it after I used it with Artifact Destruction in an earlier round. Plus it loses hard to dual Chrono and Mayor and is highly vulnerable to discard and counters, loses to Emrakul, ties Bridge, ties Field...it really needs a specific meta.

This new spoiler immediately made me think of 3CM.

It'll never replace Chronomaton, since it costs , but I like that it can die and still win the game.

I don't see why it wouldn't. It just takes an extra turn to get a second one down but it has added insurance.
