We've had a round somewhat like that floating at the top of the polls for a few seasons now, it was called "Collector". Didn't have the landrule though (something I think we should do more), nor anti-mill tech.

Some cards that were mentioned in ban discussions: Surging Flame, Surging Sentinels, Extirpate, Surgical Extraction, Manamorphose...

Would definitely want to clarify if the loss-by-draw-from-an-empty-deck rule is in play (in most 3cm it isn't, but with a 60 card deck it makes sense to introduce, all players just need to know for sure if it is).

I want to ban things that are unfair. Your list seems like a fair start, and to be honest I don't know enough to come up with a good list so I leave it up to Jim's best judgement. I just don't want something like Seismic Assault to be dominant, or other inherently unfair combo things that would ruin the fun.

The empty deck rule would apply to force a winner in cases where the board durdles out for 60 turns or someone finds a way to do a slow mill (more than 10 turns).

I specifically think Mishra's Workshop and Black Lotus specifically should be banned for other reasons. Edit: I guess I will add Energy Field too. The point is to try and force people to also interact with their opponent a bit, or at least have to consider something like 60 Lightning Helix. I think these three cards lend themselves to more non-interactive strategies than positive ones and need to be specifically planned for a bit too much. Not allowing them "theoretically" boosts creativity.

In a round that allows so much power you're going to have a really tough time forcing interaction, when there are just so many avenues for shutting down interaction.

Imagine a deck full of Time Walk. Or Orim's Chant. How much of a lockdown a first turn Meddling Mage would be when it kills 60 cards at once.

Meddling Mage can be destroyed. Orim's Chant does not prevent instants such as Lightning Bolt from being played in response to it. And "take an extra turn" effects would probably have to go on the ban list as well, similar to Surgical Extraction.

I am fully willing to admit a ban list would take a little bit of work for this one. But I am confident we could come up with something somewhat reasonable.

Edit: I still stand by no Energy Field, no Black Lotus, and no Mishra's Workshop.

I am so looking forward to this exhilarating alternate format that encourages so much interaction that Meddling Mage isn't even a blip on the radar. Oh boy. /sarcasm

I'm not going to ban anything, I think we should open things up a bit. The metagame feels a bit stale. There's a whole new set coming, I hope it will help (looks like that Mark guy saw something ).

I'm open to suggestions about this, from players with experience that can tell me why this might be a bad idea. Only problem is, I'm going away on vacation in a few hours, and will be gone till Saturday. So I may not be able to answer suggestions/change my mind today. But I should be able to look at the boards tomorrow.

As for the collector round: Isn't Pack Rat busted in that format? Or the growing Rat? But then, with potentially infinte mana, a lot of things are.

How about a player winning two rounds and still not making the top three?

I must be off on my calculations. I though I was a solid 3.5 points ahead of second place going into the final round and there was no way I wouldn't get 1st unless a deck 6-0'd everything. Meh, guess I Casey at the Batted it...

Flash is basically used to play WorldSpine Wurm. It's effectively a faster Grave Titan.

pack rat is nowhere close to broken, it's actually ridiculously fair

The format stands to be be broken in so many different ways that a pack rat deck is far more likely to be a contender for last place than a contender for first.

i think it could beat up on the hate decks, but given the metagame tendency to just go broken there's likely to be no hate decks to try to feast on
