I feel like they've gotten a lot more liberal about Standard bans lately. How many cards ultimately got banned out of Urza's/Masques standard? Mirrodin/Kamigawa? Now now many out of KLD-RIX?

Urza's/Masques was 8. Mirrodin was 9. This is now a total of 7, but we've also had Collected Company, Emrakul, the Promised End and Reflector Mage, which by my count would be 10 in two years. I may be misremembering the timeline there though.

Urza and mirrodin blocks had a lot of super broken things. These cards are fairly tame by comparison

i think they decided to become more proactive about stopping overly dominant archetypes sometime in the aftermath of cawblade

1. Back in my day (combo winter era) I felt like we lucky to have three decks in standard at once! And it was uphill both ways! Now they say that when a deck hold 20% of the field alarms start going off.

2. They want to gently Nerf these decks, not kill them. Rampaging Fericidon was chosen for stifling counterplay, not for being an especially powerful card in the deck.

10 bans in the last two years.

Yeah, thats more then Mirrodin.

**** Standard, I don't even have a deck for it (busy home life), but if I did, I'd be salty as hell.

I don't think collected company was banned. It's only 9

I don't think these bans cause nearly as much salt as the bans to Emrakul TPE and Smuggler's Copter (because people paid heavily for it as a chase card) or Felidar Guardian (which slashed the value of the Saheelis people always had paired with them and actually neutered a deck entirely). This... is a common, two uncommons, and a rare that really wasn't huge-value yet. This quite likely didn't stunt values of other cards nor demolish the decks they're in... but it may make Standard more than the two horse race it has been recently, with the simpledumb decision 'do I play the deck that beats the field, or the deck that beats the deck that beats the field'?

So even players holding these cards didn't lose much cash value, didn't lose an entire deck, and bonus, they might actually see a variety of decks in standard in the coming months rather than keep on playing against the same two decks.

CoCo is the card they literally claimed they SHOULD have banned. But I do agree that they went out of their way to ban cards that weren't expensive.
I don't even think there are any expensive cards in Temur Energy, unless you count scarab god. Obviously this ban does not make Scarab God worth less.

Chandra, Torch of Defiance is probably the card that lost the most value.... but it's still sitting at $30 TCG mid paper so. ( looked it up... it dropped 5 bucks for a week but is back up)

Limited IS the best format...

But yeah, they should have probably banned Bomat or Hazoret. Ferociodon is such a cool card.

^ I found the degenerate vampire player.

Limited is a format where I followed up my Duneblast with a blitz of Monastery Swiftspear

Ferocidon in my opinion was too strong, as it dealt tons of damage in very short order.

Then again I also think Monastery Swiftspear was too strong for the same reason, and that doesn't have any Modern decks made with it.
