I go through this a lot bro, especially because of all the depression **** I deal with. My best way to cope (outside of the unhealthy stuff like binge eating/drinking/world of warcraft) is by just remembering that things will get better. I make a list in my head of all the things that are **** right now, then come up with a likely scenario in the future that will offset it.

For instance, today I felt really depressed and lonely, so when I thought about how much I missed my ex, I reminded myself I can definitely find a girlfriend to settle down with by the time I finish my neurology phd since that will get my money and respect.

BTW OP,
I've been laid off work for three weeks. First time in 12 years in my profession that this has happened.
I'm extremely stressed and down about money. I make a decent living but it's paycheck to paycheck with no real savings other than retirement so my kids can grow up in a decent house, in a decent place, in a great school district.
Then I think about if I was in the Philippines right now...
Depression basically over.

I'm not saying to disregard your feelings. They are yours and they are valid.
But, others suffer more.
Have compassion for yourself and others and the stress and depression soon gives way to action and inertia.

When I feel bad, just take it minute by minute, hour by hour, and day by day. Eventually whatever was making your life difficult will be far enough in the past that your life will go on. In the meantime, play some games and try to do stuff that gets your mind off of it, or else if it's something you CAN do something about, then use that rage and frustration to pound out exactly what you need to get done.

Hard to say. I feel like crap most of the time. The only thing to really do is to keep breathing, otherwise things will never have a chance to get better. Just keep breathing...
