As a 20 year old white male college student, I feel as though it's my stereotypical duty to vote for a libertarian candidate, no matter how stupid their policies are.

I'm really not sure how I should vote as a white male college student. I live in Colorado, so there's already legal weed, and that's the only issue I'm supposed to care about, so now I just need to find the edgiest candidate I can so that I can feel like a rebel when I vote for them.

Ben Carson is sad because what would have been his legacy was his pioneering work as a surgeon. He was my friend's doctor because she had a very rare condition. Instead, now it's this.

I'm actually for phasing out the department of education. Not out of any libertarian mindset but out of a federalist one. I'm strongly pro state government. Sadly these days state government is largely ignored because the federal is simply "bigger". Which is a sham, more stuff that impacts your day to day life happens there. In my perfect world taxes would be flipped, I'd pay a lot more to my state government and only a minimal amount to the federal.

Balanced budget amendment is rather silly. It would never fix the real problem of congressional gridlock and increasing uselessness. I personally blame the 2 year election cycle. It's impossible to get anything productive done when you're always running for reelection. A cap on campaign spending and restriction on PAC's would help but I doubt that'll ever happen.

I don't discuss abortion issues. Ever. It's a very personal and emotional issue for people and just not worth talking about. The one and only thing I will say about it is that if it's an important issue to you one way or the other pay more attention to state government. That's where the real battle is taking place.

The thing that bothers me about primacy of state/local government is that people of similar mindset tend to be near each other and so polls are frequently lopsided, marginalizing the minority. I used to live in an area where, every election without fail, the Republican won with about 70% of the vote. Then I moved, and now live somewhere where the Democrat wins every time, with 80% or more. By aggregating over a larger area, you smooth out those deviations from the mean. This is less prevalent at the state level thanks to the larger sample size, but you still end up with things like the Texas State Board of Education.

I can't decide whether to be excited or appalled at the race this year. Clinton will continue to be unexciting as one manufactured scandal after another is thrown at her, and Sanders has interesting ideas but will be a complete sideshow. At least the already-brimming Republican Clown Car will make debates entertaining as they try to out-appeal-to-the-"base" one another.

I will almost certainly end up voting for the Democrat because at least they appear to be aware of the real world. Not that it matters in a district that went 90-10 to Obama in 2012.

I don't really disagree. For this exact reason I think the parliamentary system is better then winner take all. But at the same time at a national level we split more or less 50/50. So by smoothing things out you end up with institutionalized gridlock. So you're trading one problem for another.

I can say this with certainty though. Primaries are a horrible, horrible system. I've never been able to understand the logic behind running for government twice, the first time pandering to the most extreme element of your base.

Our entire poliitcal system is basically designed like the graphic above, and 2010 is just a recent example i am using. And you would be correct to bet on the Democrats doing the same thing if they get the chance.
