I suspect as much, but what denotes better for you, might be worse for me. I would honestly welcome spoilers if they indicated that this book is going to do something more interesting than play out most of the cliches that go with "Ordinary Villager turns into Chosen Warrior of the Light" while still holding the idiot ball.

There is a ton of character development. Maybe I was just a newb or naive but I didn't expect a lot of it. There is also a ton of characters and plot lines and parallel story lines that each hold their own. They get way more complex later on but yeah. You learn to love the characters.

I absolutely love WoT, and I hope it goes the way of Game of Thrones in becoming a HBO series.

I wouldn't really count on an adaptation to preserve everything faithfully; I'm not even sure I'd want it to. Awesome as the series can be and as thoroughly as it hooked me, looking back on it, some of those books dragged.

Jordan definitely got worse as it went on.

The replacement author was way better honestly.

Once Jordan started trying to close up the plot threads instead of adding new ones and dragging everything out it started to pick up again--he just didn't make it all the way there before AEF kicked in.

Do we have to keep it to the first book? Because after 15 books I can't always remember what happened in which book.

I am a fan of the series. I would love to see it as a movie or HBO show, but, I really doubt it will happen.
Jordan started off great (yeah...the first 2 books are a bit slow...but, for a story like this, you really need the buildup..)
He did start to slip a bit later on, but, Sanderson did a great job finishing it up (although, without an spoilers...I think the final ending could have been better).

I absolutely hated the ending. I mean the last book was good, but the very end was just dreadful. Hated it.

Huge fantasy reader here. I read the first 4-5 books and completely lost interest. Can't remember if it just got confusing with all the different characters or what. Maybe I'll try again if I get the time. A HBO mini-series would be cool too instead of reading them all.

there is a ton going on at once. it's sometimes hard to keep track of it.

also IIRC around the 5th book it got into this dry spell that was just flat out boring

as someone who really loved the series, i had to force myself through that one.
