No, what killed it was when some genius at Hasbro decided taking the WizOs away from community management - something they were very good at, as evidenced by the growth at the site over the years - was a good plan. I know how hard the GMs on the Castle of Fun worked just to get a few games setup. I can't imagine the amount of work that went into planning UnCon.

I have...ideas for these.

So I'm posting this just to get things moving, not because I think I'm capable (or really want) to manage this thing.

I think I was around for the last one or two, but was never fast enough to win anything and it was very sad. I hope this happens and I win something. Either way it should be fun.

I loved UnCon in the day: it handed out great forum bling, and I do recall at least once receiving an unexpected package from wizards of actual prize. More importantly, they were great times when activity was pushed high, everyone went everywhere, and the whole place came alive even more than usual.

Since UnCon has been long dead over on Wizards, I would be all for resurrecting it here.

I'd be willing to run a contest or two in YMtC. If there is a theme, I'll certainly work it in. For prizes, as I said, I can offer Steam games. Or if the admins are willing a badge or title, something like that.

I would be willing to toss together one or two contests for the MtG Flavor boards. I would not be able to do anything in regards to organization/prizes, but contest running I could do.

Right now we've had several people offer up various prizes, although a certain percentage of those are likely to be for contests that they already have in mind, but I know at least a few are just offering general prizes for others' contests, and we will also be offering quite a few forum prizes such as customer titles, and maybe other things as well.

How can we have a Goblin Convention at No Goblins Allowed?

I would suggest NoCon.

GobCon or UnCon would be better.

What is UnCon and how does it work?

UnCon (Unconventional Convention) was a forum-wide convention held on the WOTC forums filled with member run contests, discussions with WOTC staff, artist giveaways, and so on. It was very similar to a real-life gaming convention, just online instead. The WizOs (now ORCs) ran a lot of it, back when they were actually allowed to interact with the community. It was basically the best part of the online year.

Ah. Cool. Maybe the Expanded Multiverse should run a contest and host a Q&A or something. Maybe something about MtG worldbuilding.

I could maybe arrange for a Q&A in the forums with a Pathfinder freelancer. Only maybe at this point - it would depend on details as to whether I could interest somebody into coming over and spending an hour or two answering forum posts.

We cannot fail with the aid of the stalwart loxodon.

I'd love uncon, but there would be some challenges to pulling it off. Unlike WOTC, we can't randomly bring in artists and staff members to hang out and chat, so a lot of this Uncon would end up being contests and games that we have ourselves. Also, since the GobOs have more real world commitments than the WizOs, they might not have the time necessary to devote to setting up the festival.

What we need to figure out is:
1: What activities will we be doing for uncon?
2: To what extent will this be centrally managed by the mods and to what extent will it be players just making random contests?
3: Who does what?

Prizes matter, but I don't think they're nearly as important as figuring everything else out.

Uncon stopped running the year I showed up, always looked like a lot of fun. I'd definitely be excited to see it come back.
