I just learned about the gender pay gap, and am furious that so few people care.

Did you know that in America, women have equal or higher quality of life measures basically across the board (things like education, civic involvement, health, protection from crime, stated satisfaction with life, social support structures), but, despite scoring equal to or higher than men in every category, they only pay 75 cents for every dollar a man pays?!

How do men run the national, state, and local governments, own most of the fortune 500 companies, make 1/3 more money than women, and still manage to make themselves miserable?

Scrolling up, I'm really disappointed that this whole revival got started by dumbass semantics about the definition of the word "sexism".

Good post. I saw this great movie, AMAL, that actually makes a strong case for being much happier if you have less wealth. You should see it

The pay gap is not a myth, but it is also not as simple as many people make it out to be. These days most women get a similar hourly wage as a man in the same position. Yet the average woman still makes less money than the average man. Why?

One of the first and simplest reasons is that in order for the whole "same pay for same job" to matter, women have to get those jobs. But as girls are often dissuaded from academics at a young age, they don't tend to be qualified for many high paying jobs. Also, as the majority of executives are men, and we live in a society which often tells men not to trust women, it is hard for women to get promoted.

Finally, women tend to be the primary carers for their families, and so work fewer hours to spend more time with children and other family members in need of support.

We cannot fix the wage gap without changing how society looks at women.

yes, the problem is that girls are dissuaded from academics. they only enter colleges at a higher rate, drop out less often, score better, display more positive attitudes towards academics, are recipients of preferential recruitment initiatives in the most lucrative fields and hold the majority of bachelor degrees.
if only academia was nicer to girls

you'd also have to force women to work more overtime
maybe some of you women are content with your income, profession and amount of free time, but who cares about that, the numbers aren't aligned, so get to working
