At some point in the next couple of days I'll be rolling out a secure site, for those of you who can't browse at work or any other restricted location, and for those who just appreciate more security. The secure address will be at https://www.nogoblinsallowed.com and I'll update as soon as the changes are rolled out. The following browser/OS configurations are currently incompatible with the secure site address: Internet Explorer (any version) on Windows XP or Internet Explorer 6 or earlier Safari on Windows XP BlackBerry Browser Windows Mobile before and up to 6.5 Android default browser on Android 2.x (Fixed in Honeycomb for tablets and Ice Cream Sandwich for phones) wget before 1.14 Java before 1.7 Nokia Browser for Symbian at least on Series60 Opera Mobile for Symbian at least on Series60 |

It is pretty easy for a company of any size to be a bit behind on their interfaces, as getting licensing for 100 or 1000 people can be hard to justify when the older ones work as well for their purposes. Of course, in my case I had to fight tooth and nail to not get windows 8 on my laptop. I can darn well remote into a computer with windows 8 if I need to test anything, guys, come on! Keep your sticky hands off of my stuff. |

For my company, it's two things: First, Windows XP SP2 is quite stable, which when you're talking about 50,000 employees is something IT likes. Second, and maybe more important, the company I work for is federally regulated. As part of the regulation, all IT systems have to be what's called "validated" - which is a fancy government term to basically mean vendors must explicitly approve the hardware and OS, and IT must run thorough testing on the software and document every step of the way to "validate" that everything works as possible. IE8 on Windows XP is explicitly validated by vendors to work for the software we run. As old machines are obsoleted, they're just within the last year or so being replaced by machines with Windows 7. |

That was my issue: stability. I've ever encountered any compatibility issues at all between my machine and any of the stuff I use for work, and I'm not interested in being a test pilot. Even though I've heard such great things about windows 8. |

Or keep using the "normal" site - the http:// address will still work. |

No one who can currently use the site will be affected; you just may not be able to use the secure site. Unless I ruin everything by doing it wrong, which is medium likely. |
