so two of the other forums i'm a member have as part of the "before you can post anywhere" you have to post in the introduction thread, it helps cut down on accounts that have less than 1 post, along with spam and it helps everyone ( maybe hopefully..i can dream can't i? ) by saying hi to the new people along with bringing a better sense of community. I think we could use something like that....but i'm gonna guess a few folks will say no |

Im all for cutting down spam, but never been fond of hoops to jump through before being able to read/post content. There's times I've not posted on a thread I was reading just csuse the site did email verification and I was too lazy to log into my 'used to sign up for random sites' email. I think if I made an account, went to my email and verified, and then still have things to do before I could post id not make the effort. Sorta like when WotC forced you to fill out a profile... |

I agree with this. more work means more people being turned away. spam bots are annoying but we don't have so many of them right now that it's worth inconveniencing and chasing away potential new members with extra work. especially since there will be very little actual content in the thread. |

I prefer the let's go buy Gobo_Fire some k-cups and or jet fuel approach. People should not be forced to post anywhere. |

Interesting idea. I can see the merits, but I don't think it's worth it. I mean, what thread would you even have to introduce yourself in? This board already has multiple off topic threads catering to different groups. Perhaps a new, central thread could be made, but it's hard to force people to actually use something like that. |

I've never been a fan of them. They're annoying to post in, they don't really foster any sort of community and it feels a little bit condescending to me. |

Two things: 1) @Tpw, do you realize you are the first post in 4 months? I am just curious, becasue I can't tell if that's a response or not. And if it's not a response, I don't understand the point of necroing this. Basically, I'm just confused. 2) If someone is going to be a major part of any community on this board, they will become known to the members of that community anyways. If they aren't, it doesn't matter much. This would fall under the category of "a lot of hassle for not much improvement and a possible downside". Also, if you only had a single one, most of our members wouldn't even bother to check it on a regular basis. |

No, it just showed up at the top of the metaboard list as something I hadn't checked out. I assumed it was an active thread. |

I'm with Bounty Hunter. The other day a WotC employee posted their first post here, because we found out they were reading the F&S board and talked about it. Would they have been intimidated away from posting if they had to jump through a bunch of hoops before making one casual comment on the board? |

Am I allowed to laugh? I'm gonna laugh. THATS NOT THE RIGHT KIND OF LAUGH YOU SILLY OAF! *goes hunting through smiley index* That's better. Anyway, I just find it quite funny that this thread has, effectively, died twice and people are still posting. I'm preeeeeeeetty sure the matter has already been settled. |
