DJ0045 wrote: You know what this board needs? A way to make a user put you on ignore. Basically, the ignore button, but in reverse. Any interest or appetite in seeing this implemented? In our little corner of the woods, we seem to have users who are instantly-triggered by other users, regardless what they post. While some users have successfully followed moderator's advice and used the ignore button to great success, there is still all this triggering going on from users who don't use the function. The above-quoted poster wisely suggested a solution which could work and I wanted to see if there was any interest in seeing that put into place as a future feature? |

I am not sure how I feel about this. I will bring it up with the other moderators in case they do not see this question. Do not expect a rapid response, this may take some time, even for a no. |

The moderation staff has discussed this, and we've decided not to implement this feature. We're unclear on how much additional work it would be for Welder, but more importantly, it just doesn't feel like the right fit for this sort of forum architecture. In a feed-based system like, say, Twitter, the emphasis is on individual posts, so muting someone does make them effectively invisible. Allowing users to mute themselves on other people's feeds, then, does genuinely allow one to remove oneself from others' experiences of the platform, and can be a powerful tool for reducing conflict. However, on a threaded forum like ours, the emphasis is on long-form discussions, so even if someone is muted, you still see all the responses and activity around their posts. You aren't removing their influence over your experience, you're simply removing your ability to establish context. If people want to make that choice for themselves, that is, of course, perfectly reasonable, but in this sort of environment it feels inappropriate to allow users to choose to enforce that removal of context onto others, and it seems unlikely to resolve the issues you're attempting to resolve. Thanks, Lazarus |

DJ, you happy with the moderators take on your suggestion? You can voice a counter opinion here if you’d like. This is a safe space. |

Honestly, that post was out of frustration, more than anything else. I get why it wouldn't work on NGA. It would be great if it worked the way I want it to though, lol. Tbf, I doubt I'd even use it in any case - you might though. |
