GoboFire mentioned this in the Off Topic forum. Is this when you diss a thread in the thread without adding content; when you post something that doesn't have to do with the OP; or is this when you create a pointless thread? Just want to be sure. I often respond to posters in threads in the Off Topic room in ways that don't have much to do with the OP but is still part of... off topic... discussion...

Is this a term I should be acknowledged with?

The first is pretty spot on. The second is spam, but can be threadcrapping if the purpose is to bring about the death of the thread.

When in doubt, go to the urban dictionary. ;) Definitions 1 and 3 are pretty much what I mean when I say it.

"Threadcrapping" is an imaginary term created by the GobO's because:

Right - it's so imaginary and made up that the definition has existed on Urban Dictionary since 2010. You caught us; we went out to UD way back then and created the definition just so we could use it once here in 2014 to close a thread.

Note to staff: Hey, Guys? We need to do a better job of making up words. Also, we probably ought to communicate stuff like this in private.

Because being "off topic", in the "Off Topic" subforum, is something worthy of moderators getting involved. Theres no way that could be construed as idiotic at all.

We've been over this. "Off topic" doesn't mean "no topic."

But, y'see. thing is; when its posting in an established thread, its not "no topic", its "diverting the established topic away from spam, to the userbase joking around and having fun.

But I forgot. NO FUN ALLOWED. Sorry.

OK, I'll continue to play your silly little game.

Explain to me, please, how the topic in question was spam? Just because you don't like a topic doesn't mean it's not a topic. Just because the topic was a little odd (OK, quite a bit odd), doesn't mean it was spam. Just because the poster had never made a post before doesn't make the thread spam. (Full Disclosure: The OP has since edited their signature to include links that are likely spam, and I'll be looking into those today; but at the time, the links weren't there.)

But, you're posting nonsense in the thread was spam. It had nothing to do with the topic. (For fairness sake, your first post was great; you answered the question well.) It didn't even have anything to do with a tangent of the topic. You're entire purpose of posting was to derail the thread. That's threadcrapping. That's why the thread got closed, and - I'll add - it's absolutely a warnable offense, on par with spam in general and flaming.

And finally, I say this last piece with all sincerity and no malice. If you don't like it here, leave. We know we can't appeal to everybody, but we hope to appeal to as many people as possible. If we don't appeal to you specifically, I'm OK with that even if I'd prefer you to stay. But if we're so "un-fun" for you, why do you keep coming back rather than finding someplace else to spend your valuable free time? Are you a masochist who "likes" spending their valuable time at a place they hate? Do you have so much free time in your life that you can waste hours hanging out at a place that doesn't fit your idea of "fun" just because you have nothing else to do? Seriously, why? Life's too short to piss time away at a place you don't like and aren't required to be at.

A, its not hard to see that the thread was made by a bot. Therefore the thread was spam. Which in turn, should make it alright to joke around, since the thread was off topic. B, no. I love it here. I just think the majority of the mods are trigger happy tyrants; and so long as you contjnue being such, I will continue to point it out.

NO CRITICISM ALLOWED

If the thread is spam, you leave it alone instead of bumping it so it receives more attention.

Why though? Why not have fun with it when its not hurting the board? Its not like anyone was being belligerent in that thread or posting goatse or anything.

Off Topic does not mean "No Topic". Just topics that are different from the rest of the subforms should be created in that section.

I already answered that. Because it provides the thread with extra attention.
"Don't feed the troll" and all that. Internet forum 101.

Off Topic is an area for threads / topics that do not belong in other sections of the forums, not a place where the rules dont apply. What that means is even though is forum isnt focused on music, a thread about music would be at home in the Off Topic Room. It does not mean that you can go into the music thread and derail the topic, nor does it mean that if you saw that the tread was derailed already that you can join in on the spam.

As mentioned, both of these behaviors are against the Code of Conduct, which you agree to follow by posting on this site.
